Have there been any weighted in lately. Where would be the best place to target them?

Set, concensus is that the golden algae has wiped out the smallmouth in Whitney over the years. May be a few left, but not enough to plan a trip around.

Unnessesary comment, don't discouage the new guys, just tell him what you know about the lake.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know when to go fishing.

Man, and that lake held the State Record for some time. Ron Gardner use to make a good living on Night Fall Guide Trips. He had 2-3 state records and broke them out of there. It is a @%&$ shame the state doesn't come back in with some stockings to boost it back. Not impressed with the state's stockings. Since we paid that extra $5 on our fishing license's for improvements and Rick Perry took that money elsewhere. Our stocking programs for LMB and SMB have decreased. What I would propose on these SAL fish is that these offspring go into different lakes. These lakes have already proven they can and will produce that size fish. Some of our other lakes need help. Just my 2 cents worth and I will get off my soap box and quit venting about our stocking programs.

This kind of post seems to come up every other few months. The last time people talked about smallies in whitney - a few people chimed in and said they've still been catching them on occasion... not easy, but they're still found every now and then... of course, Belton isn't that far from Whitney and it does hold the smallie state record...

This may help, I have fished Lake Whitney for many, many years. the big flood back in 1990, we lost alot of nice smallmouths. due to the large amounts of water being let out. there are still some smallies below the dam. but as far as the lake. the last one i caught was 3 years ago. I keep in contact with the lake Biologist John Tibbs. and the surveys show that there possibly a few left but it would be very hard to find one, electroshocking has been done all areas where smallies were highly populated at on time. and none were found. the golden algea done alot of damage on them. the plan was to restock several, as soon as the algea problem was solved but weve had many outbreaks thru the years, and the last couple looked as if the algea had gone. and some plans had been made to locate some fry from Belton to whitney. but the recent algea will slow the process down. i suspect...i wish it was like it was back in the days we caught 5-6 pounders regular. but hopefully the algea problem will go away and we can get a huge stocking of smallies and return back to the hay days.....
