Fishin247,
That is exactly my point. You need the grass. However, if the grass covers as much of the lake again as it did when the lake was low don't be surprised if they put carp in and then the hydrilla will not come back like it does after they spray. If they put carp in, not only will you not have hydrilla there will not even a sprig of vegetation anywhere on the lake within months of the stocking. It may be worth it to trade of the short time frames of little hydrilla after spraying compared to 10 years + of no vegetation.

I was fishing a DD22 in the West Lake last Saturday and kept pulling up green strands on Hydrilla in the North end in 12-14 foot. Also when you go out the back door of the marina there is hydrilla growing in the boat slips and next to the retaining wall.

There is hydrilla growing behind around the marina and other areas of the west lake. And the East Lake is Plum full of it and healthy, real healthy. I am finally starting to figure that lake out.

They are not going to spray the grass until the Fall. They spray it every fall when the water level is down some.

The city is spraying 5% to appease the homeowners/boaters/swimmers and leaving 95% for the fishermen. Sounds like a pretty good compromise to me. I can't figure out why you all are upset. You'll still have over 500 acres of hydrilla to fish. Are you really going to miss 27 acres?

Guys, it is a balance between fishermen and owners that want to get out of their boat docks. The little bit I've fished lately has proven that the hydrilla is doing well. Thay can't afford to treat the whole lake, and that is not the City's intention.
I don't know if they're spraying you favorite holes or not, but I agree that there is plenty of grass in the lake. I just need to learn how to fish it, too....

My biggest complaint is that it is paid for with money I have to pay via my water bill. When I had a dollarweed problem in my lawn that bothered me everyone didn't chip in to take care of it so why does everyone who uses water have to pay when these homeowners complain about the hydrilla around THEIR docks? To be perfectly honest I would rather be drinking water from a lake that has clear water and hydrilla as opposed to one that was getting herbicides sprayed into it and no vegetation to filter the water.

I will believe that when I c it!! It dont matter much. The stuff grows right back after they spray it. They sprayed it Last Fall and it didn't make much difference. As long as they don't put the grass carp in. It will be fine. They wiped it all out in 2007 and it was back all over the East lake within a year. They just thin it out some and it grows right back. Kinda like mowing the yard, you will need to mow it again in a few days..lol. What they are not aware of yet is it is growing in several areas of the west lake also.

I will believe that when I c it!! I believe it was the City of Tyler that said they were just going to spray 27 "AREAS". Assuming the cost of product to spray 27 acres was $37,000+, it would cost over $600,000 to spray the entire 500+ acres. I don't think any city could pull that out of their budget right now.
