great post Parker, lots of info there, thanks. Fish hauler, appreciate the offer, may have to take you up on the offer as I narrow down the choices Best for you isn't necessarily best for me.....
Ask yourself these questions:
1) How many people do I normally have fishing with me? 2) Do I want more casting deck room or cockpit room? 3) Do I need room for a shad tank? 4) Where will I store it? How much room do I have? 5) What will I tow it with? 6) What type of water do I fish the most? Big open water, lots of trees, real shallow(3ft or less), etc. 7) How much and what type of gear am I normally carrying...reference #1 above.
With those questions answered you can narrow down your search to fewer manufacturers, makes, and models.
Once you've narrowed it down you'll find its mainly a price point game from there going from cheap to expensive.
Then, ask yourself what is the best boat for the money that meets my needs.....asking an open ended question is like searching for a pink unicorn...it can be fun, you learn some things along the way, but you know the outcome.
The BEST "Bay Boat" out there relative to ride quality, fit & finish, re-sale, "wow" factor, and speed is without question the Yellowfin 24' Bay Boat. I've been on the water in over 25 different models of "bay boats" and that one is the cream of the crop.......BUT its too expensive to even be put in the same league as some of the others. Good questions, and some that I have been considering 1 - 1-4 people, (1 adult, 2 kids and myself) 2 - casting deck 3 - I have a shad tank 4 - storage is commercial, enclosed, currently holding '07 22' Suntracker 5 - FX4 Ford 6 - This is where it gets sticky. We crappie fish primarily, but enjoy hybrids too 7 - Normally two bags, one crappie/white bass, the other hybrid bag. 4 rods for each species, so 8 total. I spent a year researching before I purchased my toon, and we love it. But I've always wanted a CC. I've had several bass boats that go too fast, and small craft that poke along. So yes, I'll be weighting my needs vs wants to find the best suited for our lifestlye and fishing stlye. Thanks for the advice

If you need a big boat (ie 21 footer) check out Bass Cat Boat's Bay Cat. Lifetime hull warranty and one of the best laid out CC boats out there.

If the 'Blonde' ever carps out I'm going with a Nautic Star for freshwater. If I still want to chase trout and reds and have to run shallow I'll look real hard at the Haynie. Either will have a Yamaha SHO.

I just bought a K2 Marine Frontier a couple of weeks ago. Could not be happier with it. I crappie and SB and hybrid fish. Takes rough very well and has plenty of storage and fishing room. I looked at them all and when I came upon this one, I knew it to be the one. My first CC and I will never go back to bass boat.

I thought they were just bass boats. and yes, size matters If the 'Blonde' ever carps out I'm going with a Nautic Star for freshwater. I'm kinda partial to those hondas

well I can tell you I love my Yamaha, and I used to own a 115 merc. optimax saltwater edition on my 20' Seahunt it was nothing but constant problems and it never liked to start. I have not had a ounce of issues with the Yamaha, plus all the research I did on the motors between Mercury, Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki the Yamaha is lighter all through their product range, and they produce the same if not more horsepower with less cubic inches. Lighter weight always equals fuel savings, plus Yamaha came VERY highly recommended to me by many different people (including people that don't work at a boat dealer). But just like the boat do your research find what works for you, and make an informed purchase. Oh yeah and don't forget Xpress!! Best of luck in your hunt for the perfect rig
2010 Xpress 16' center console Good Luck and Tight Lines!

Lite-Liner is right on. All the boats he mentioned are good boats. I have ridden in many boats over the years and I based my purchase on buying a boat that could run off-shore 50 miles or so, a boat I could fly fish off the front deck and one that would ride high in the water for rough situations. I wanted max room with very little storage and a few live wells with lots of aeration. I also wanted a dry ride!!! I did not like any of the blue waves I rode in, although Texans tend to love their blue waves. I have found Parker boats (used on east coast) and Triton to have the best layouts and build. Both boats can take a pounding and fit all my criteria. Thing is, we all have different needs in our boats and our pocket books also play a part in the purchase. If you have tons of money a Parker would be an unreal purchase and a boat of a lifetime. I also like some of the older kenners. When I purchased my boat, I got pre-approved for my loan and knew what I wanted. I just had to find what I wanted and it had to be in my price range. I ended up driving to Florida to purchase it as the boat was much higher priced here in Texas. Here is what I ended up with. The only other boat I would have taken would have been a parker.

TB, if you go new, remember this also, many dealers will only outfit a boat with a certain brand engine. Yes, gotta mention sea-pro again, mine had a yammy on the back and I love the yammies, but many dealers quit selling them becuase they started putting mercs on the rear. I for one have mercs now, but to me all of them are cold starters, and I never had a problem getting the yammy to start. Good Luck and BLUF, have fun doing this. Don't rush, the right boat will find you.

.....Yes, gotta mention sea-pro again,.... Didn't Sea Pro get bought out by someone? I'm thinking Trophy? I noticed when looking for some used ones I couldn't find any newer than 2008.

I've been looking for a good center console as well. If money was no object I'd buy a Shearwater. My buddy George has one and it is an incredible boat. I found a Kenner on craigslist that was perfect just couldn't pull the trigger. I like the layout of Kenner and Mako as well. I think these are the same now. In my research I found a lot of boat mfg have gone out of business and a lot have been combined. Kinda gets confusing when your looking at a Fishmaster made by Polar. I like this one http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/boa/1758390468.html but I'm not sure about an aluminum boat. I'll keep looking, the right one will come around eventually - www.thehulltruth.com has some great information on different boats.

Sea Pro was bought out by brunswick awhile back just like many other boat manufacturers, but your right, I just checked, no website. They had one not too long ago. Here is the marine site for brunswick. I knew they were sucking up as much as they can but dang. I did notice they own Merc now.

Not knocking the boat, but I bet your kidneys will get a workout on that one if you hit rough water, or just simple Texas weather. The pitch along with it being alum tells me your not going to go too fast at all. Here is what I found with just a quick look. He wont' sell it unless he lowers his price, JMHO.
