I'm new to the striper/hybrid fishing. Family is taking a trip and I want my wife to catch her first striper/hybrid. Are they biting good and what do we need to use to get on some?

Haven't seen a good report on Proctor this year either. They had a huge fish kill last summer. If anyone is catching hybrids they are keeping it to themselves. Ft Phantom or Hubbard have hybrids I think and are closer to you. Not sure what others.

Matter of fact .. I was out there about 2 weeks ago and saw some more large floating hybrids ....
Also threw my casting net about 12-15 times ...
Lots of big gizzards .... No small shad of any kind ...
And 2 very sickly looking sand bass .....
It is a 14ft diameter net ... It catches a lot of bait .....

There is something very wrong going on at that lake .....

Me/wife was out there last Sat. It wasn't good. 3 whites and one bass. It has been pretty hit/miss. Didn't graph alot of fish/bait either. Last year, they were everywhere. Throw a chart or white crankbait or troll a silver Rat L Trap. If you do graph a school of fish, jig a slab or small swimbait.

I was wrong about Hubbard having hybrids according to TPWD stocking report. They haven't been stocked there since 1984. Check out this site on past stocking of different species.

We were there for our annual family trip from May 6th - May 11th. The fishing was nothing like it usually is for us. We caught only a handful of sandies and maybe 3-4 hybrids a day, of which only a handful the whole trip were keepers. Like stated above, it was a different lake this year.

Are there any other fish biting on Proctor? Or is all fishing bad?

You might ask that question on the catfishing or crappie thread and get some response. I will be at Proctor tomorrow through Monday and I will do some talking and looking. Grandkid weekend and granny says no fishing.

I went fishing at proctor last year for a week about this time and the fishing was outstanding. We limited out on white bass everyday and caught tons of great crappie. This year is a different story. I went down there last weekend and the fishing was terrible. Caught only a few white and black bass. The crappie were way off as well...... we got about a third of what we usually catch. I heard pesticide got into the lake and killed alot of fish at the end of last summer. The lake however looks good..... the water level is way up from where it was last year. If yall are wanting to go have some fun just being on the lake then Proctor will be alright but if you are wanting to get on some fish I would look somewhere else for now.

I had been fishing it about a month ago and was wearing out the whites and a few small hybrids. Haven't been back in the last month or so so don't know the current situation.
