Is anyone even trying? I have seen it tough to catch threadfins but the gizzards were there. I really hat to buy shiners.

Many of the Texoma guides are catching their shad on Lewisville.

That does not answer my question. I can go to Hubbard and catch some but that will probably only get me through one evening. I am just wondering if I should stop on the way up Firday afternoon and just grab some shiners to be safe. I will do that if catching shad is just totally hopeless.

Had a buddy throw for five hours, he caught 7 threadfins. Bring your own bait, or buy it at a local store. Most guides are buying there bait, but it isn't close to using threadfins. Good luck

Cut bait is working pretty well also.
I'd haul as much live bait as I could carry with me along with a couple hundred baits on ice.....fish half your lines with livies and half with cut bait to make your bait last all weekend.

I was there last week. I would buy shiners or saltys to be safe, but I was able to find big gizzards in the backs of creeks in the mornings and afternoons. Look for 4-10 ft deep off the bank near trees. They killed the cut shad and a couple even took em whole.

Geez guys...how many times we gootta say it??? Shiners are working every bit as good as shad right now..I dont know how it can get any better...Shiners or big gizz's cut up ARE WORKING.. Catching shad here is "hopeless" so why bother ? Slab are starting to work very well also...These fish are hungry..dont over think it...its just fishing..go buy some shiners and go fishing...you'll catch-em

If I had the time I would stop at Hubbard and get some shad for the ice chest. It will be the middle of the day and I know I can find them. I just do not want to spend the time and gas to run to my honey hole. I would try off Dalrock but don't know how it would be mid day.

either spend your money on gas to catch shad or spend your money on shiners...quit worrying about it. I have fished this lake every other weekend for the past 2 months and limited out with 2-5 people everytime... on shiners!

Scooter,
It not the money it is the time. I could spend 2 hours+ chasing shad on Hubbard. I do not think it is worth it. I called a freind that lives up there and he can get me shad if I want them. I cut my teeth fishing shiners on Texoma and have used them at times even after I started throwing a cast net.
