I'm 51 and have been multispecies fishing all my life, but carp have always been my favorite due to the fierce fight. For some reason I have always liked to catch the fish everyone else thinks are "trash fish". NO SUCH THING, FOLKS! Been thinking of a session targeting Drum. Now, where are them crayfish...

im 51, i started fishing at 13 yrs old for brim at lake waxahachie , our retired neighbor had about a 59 dodge sedan and an old lone star aluminum boat with about a 20 hp motor and he would drive us (me and him , he wouldnt take any of my brothers lol ) from oak cliff each summer . then when i got to high school and got me a my own car i was fishing weekends for everything from cats to crappie ( but no buffs and carp ,never heard of them lol ) i didnt get started with carp till zachs post when there was no carp section (2004 i think ) so i guess its been 5 and a half yrs or so

I went out a few times a couple years ago, but only started really trying to catch one this year. If trying counts, I guess I've been at it about 4 months. If catching is required, I haven't done it yet. I mostly fly fish for other species, but I do try for the carp frequently.

Since July of 08 I had to dig up my original TFF posts to find out. Man i must have made some enemies back then with my treble hooks and holding the carp by their gills with blood coming out! Oh how my view of carp has changed since then!

I have been actively fishing for Large Carp since 1980. I started fishing when I was about 8. I think I was 16 when I got my first 20lb mirror, 22 lbs 8 oz!

20+ years. Started afternoon sessions with my Dad when I was 8. Boy do I miss them days. Solo sessions started at 12.

A bit over my first year now.. I can't get over it even after all my days of not catching one fish..
I try to release every fish I catch, but I take a small amount home here and there for the brother.. So I live for the fight.
Catch and Release fishing is a lot like golf. You don't have to eat the ball to have a good time.

I started back when Donny, Mark, Jesse and the rest of the gang did. There wasn't even a rough fish section. We were all posting in open freshwater section.

I am probably the #1 Newb here, its been about 5 or 6 months for me. Been Bass fishing since I was single digits, Carp are a whole lotta fun I must say!

I guess I might be the old man on here. I used to fish the old Clear Lake barge on Lake Lavon on Sunday afternoons and catch 8 and 9 inch crappie and sand bass. Then one day an elderly gentleman showed up with dough bait and started catching these giant (to me) fish. I was hooked immediately. That was in 1960, so this is my 50th year of carp fishing. Older and slower at 63, but still enjoy the pull on the string.

How many of you ONLY fish for Carp and Buffs? I can't remember the last time I fished for anything else.
