Gonna drive down tonight & camp out so I can get a full day fishing tomorrow ... my question is where should I launch for the best chances at state water red snapper? Sabine Lake, Galveston, SLP or Freeport?

My gut feeling is Freeport/Surfside, but thought it would be smart to ask on here. Thanks!

Bob, I think I know which wreck you mean. Any suggestions on best boat ramp to use around there? I don't mind paying a launch fee for a ramp in a manned area - like a bait camp or marina - if it means I have a safer place to leave my vehicle.

I personally have had better luck out of Galveston for in close snaps. If you clear the jetties and head out the ship channel there are two pipestands you will see around five miles out. Have had much better luck. In my experience, Freeport is fished VERY heavily.

Just got back home an hour ago ... got skunked on snapper or kings. Did catch some sharks, I'm sure they were smaller than I guessed (I guessed @ 80# each). Let each loose thinking I'd get a true keeper size blacktip ... joke was on me.

Might try Galveston again next week if the weather holds out. Oh, gee, just realized thats federal season & don't have to worry about the 9 mile limit. Then again, 4 fish in state waters beats 2 in federal waters.

Was still enjoyable & there's something about taking an 18' boat out about 10 miles from port that's fun in itself.

Why do they only let us take 2 snappers. I guess so they have plenty of under size ones for the saigon grocery store here in richardson. I stopped in there the other day and saw 10inch snapper behind the glass. You now thats all from the gulf.

keep it reel

Are you sure they are true red snapper. A ton of fish markets have vermillion snapper or beeliners and sale them as red snapper
