Hey guys,
I have never fished salt water before(well maybe I have, but I was too young for it to be relevant :p)
Anyways- we are going to be going out there next month for a 4 day weekend. The only fishing I do is catfishing- any tips or suggestions?
I usually hang around the catfishing forums, but I'll be here for the next month soaking up all the info I can get. haha
Thanks!!

Also- does anyone know where I can rent a small boat for fishing around there? I can't find anything online!! I found plenty of guides and stuff- but I'd rather it be me and my fishing partners

Hog Island Marina on TX361, on the causeway between Aransas Pass and Port A, rents small Carolina Skiff's. They're across from Fin & Feather and west of Crabman Marina. The "Search" feature of this forum is your friend. Any question you have has probably been asked and answered no less than 100 times already. Also, check out www.2coolfishing.com. It's mainly a saltwater forum with lots of info and knowledge there.

No need for a boat. Fish the Caldwell pier, and you'll do just fine. At night, use live shrimp under the lights for specks and reds. During the day (or night), put a piece of bait-not dead shrimp-on a 4/0 circle hook on a 3 foot steel leader with a 2-5 oz. spider weight and try your luck that way. Sharks are easily caught with squid, menhaden, mullet, and other types of cutbait. Try a live mullet for a speck or red. If you fish on the bottom with double drop rigs using shrimp, you are fishing for hardheads!
I'm not a chick.

The place LandPirate is refering to is South Bay Bait & Charters. http://www.fishportaransas.com/ the bay in front of the bait stand is all good, mainly trout. Get back around the marsh islands for the reds.
