I have a skeeter zx190 and the area around the boat smells like gas. If I open one of the lockers on the fron deck I can smell the gas. Is this normal? I have not seen any gas leaks anywhere and my gas gauge seems to be where it's supposed to.

how full is the tank? if full it may be expanding due to heat, if not full this can still happen and cause the smell. go out tonite after it has cooled and see if its still as strong.

The gas smell is not too strong but you can smell it slightly. The boat was like it since I bought it a month ago. I only have taken it out twice.

No, it is not normal. I have had friends that bought new boats and when they filled them up they had to leave their lockers open it was so bad. If you smell gas then something aint right I don't care if the dealer convinces you it's normal. It aint. Only place you should smell gas is if you put your nose up to the little vent on the side gunnel of your boat or if you fart.

check the vent line to see if it is loose from the tank, usually a 3/8" line next to the fill hose (the big one) also check to see if it is just old and cracked.

hope you find the issue. it is not normal, unless you would like your spinnerbait tied on lure to smell like gas from being in your rod locker. (i know you said it's not that bad, just saying)

good luck

take a look around the sending unit on the tank as well. read about some leaks there as well on certain brand boats..

This has been discussed many times on BBC in the Champion forum. Seems some thinks it is something to live with. I call BS on that sort of nonsense. They were told that there were some tanks that the plastics, or whatever they were made of, would weaken and gas would permeate the material. I call BS on that too. If it permeates the material then the gas is eating the material then eventually there would be a big freakin hole. I think it is all BS. There has to be a hose leak, whether a loose clamp or cracked, or there is a seal failure at the sending unit. Shouldn't be ANY gas smell other than the vent and that is NOT in your rod locker. Some of those guys say that they just leave their lids open when in the garage so the vapors can escape. I smoke and that would be all I need is to open the box to get a rod and get lit up instead. LOL LOL

I checked all the fuel lines in the bilge area and all of them seemed ok. None of them had cracking or leaks. I did notice there are two gas tanks in the bilge area and they seem to be made of plastic?
