I havent had a double yet using the hell pet. I am using two pet spoons spaced 2ft apart. Is this the correct setup? I always catch one , but never two, i was just wondering what i was doing wrong. Distance from hell to pet is 2ft Distance from pet to pet is 2ft Thanks for any info given.

Rusty, I have nevered fished with 2 pet spoons behide the hellbender before. I do know that everytime I do hook up on the spoon that the fish usually surfaces after being hooked. I then just let him ski back to the boat.

I always fish with two and caught more doubles than not yesterday. I used to only catch one at a time til I put each spoon on its own line. I use a ball bearing swivel off the diver to keep the twist to a minimum and still run your distances about the same. Hope this helps

Double up on two good sized hybrids and youll have more than you can handle!!! Also, a good hybrid wont water ski back to the boat, he'll try to tow it for you!!!

To save some money and even have more fun, tie on 3 - 1/8oz. maribou crappie jigs and then your pet spoon. We've been catching 4 at a time through dense schools.

Thats a great idea with the jigs. I hate when I lose two pet spoons on a hang-up

Also how are you tying all those jigs on there? In the afternoon on CC, is trolling the big hump north of the damn good?

You can troll there, there is a couple of hangups on the south end of that flat or large hump if you will, but you might be better served trolling this rig around the spillway hump...later in the afternoon, fish really stack up on humps, so find one with a large concentration and hammer them.

Easiest way to rig a double setup is to tie a 1/8 oz spec rig to a 2' piece of 14# line off the swivel on the hellbender. Cut the bottom jig off the spec rig and replace it with the pet spoon. The weight of the jig will keep the lures apart and the heavy line on the spec rig will hold two big fish. Doubles are more common than singles.

I use one pet spoon and one small salt and pepper jig. I use a dropper loop with a snap swivel on it for the jig so I can change them. I run both hellbenders and jet divers and they produce about the same. I don't like loosing two pet spoons at once so I use the jig.
I think the jig is all you need what happens is fish one hits the spoon then the others think he is chasing the jig, greed takes over and snap a double almost every pass.

I suggest to use one Pet Spoon, size 12 or 13. I like the size of the #13. The leader s/b 4' in length. I remove the spoon from the Hellbender and replace with a ball bearing swivel.

I was trolling the other day, and i had two 1/8 oz jigs and a #13 spoon. It seems as if the hellbender wouldnt dive. Is there a way to fix this, or is the hellbender wore out? Also thanks for the valuable info.
