Hey guys ive brought this up before but now ive got more info.My friend has about a 2 acre pond.Ive fished it pretty regularly and have found there to be too many 7 inch crappie,no bluegill zero, several 5 lb cats, and few bass.I havent caught a crappie over 8 inches long and have removed over 150.Wouldnt i have caught a bluegill by now.I use small roadrunners and minnows. The 10 to 20 bass i have caught seem to be stunted also.My question is...dont these crappie still spawn and wouldnt the bass get fat and happy with all the fry they would produce.

From what I have learned on this site, crappie can overtake a pond quick. They will out compete the bass by eating all bluegill fry in a heart beat. My guess would be that the crappie have out competed the bass and demolished your bluegill fry. Some people on this site will say unless properly managed, crappie and bass do not mix on smaller ponds. The stunted bass are probably very hungry. The owners of the pond might want the crappie, but if they want to catch large bass, my guess would be to eliminate all of the crappie. Others will answer your question with a more scientific approach. The crappie are running out or have ran out of forage also. Good luck. Expect many crappie dinners.

Basspoop,
That's a pretty typical description of what happens in most of the small ponds in which crappie are introduced. The crappie spawn before other fish in the pond and get an advantage that way in the food chain line. With their relatively large mouths thay have another advantage over the other sunfish that may be present.
Crappie spawn can be prolific, overwhelming all other fish in the pond. Also, the large catfish in the pond can outcompete the bass for whatever is left over. Too many fish after the same small forage = almost no forage for any fish.
Left as is, the situation likely will just get worse with smaller and smaller crappie and more and more of them.

meadow im trying to catch as many crappie and cats as i can to move them because the pond is two houses down and i can fish it all i want. And u were right about the cats bringing disease because i caught one with some weird lookin sores on his mouth and gills.I prefer to catch bass myself.I guess it will never be perfect though, there must be hundreds of crappie in it .You can catch them every other cast all over the pond.Whitch is kinda fun but no challeng or fight.Shouldnt there at least be a few big crappie and bass/

No, probably not any big ones. Big bass...maybe two or three really big, smart, old bass that will be nearly impossible to catch on artificials. If you want to find out if they are in there, get you a few live bluegills, about 3 to 4 inches, put one on a hook below a float in likely bass area. You will find out pretty quick if there are any big 'uns in there.
