I've been asked to take a couple of co-workers (they don't fish) fishing for some sandbass/hybrids Tuesday, July 5 after work to either Conroe or Sommerville. I tournament bass fish mostly so my knowledge to this type fishing is limited and I've only been to each lake 2-3 times.

Would anybody offer suggestions on which lake would be my best luck and if you don't mind a general area/location where we could try? We're located in Northwest Houston so Conroe is a little closer, but I would drive and extra 15 or so minutes if our luck would be better @ Sommverville. We might even try our luck for some catfish.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks is advance!!

I think somerville might be easier than conroe. If you go to somerville, troll along the dam with shad looking deep divers or the hellpet. If you can't catch em there, try to find some humps and jig some jigging spoons. If you don't get bit at a hump within about 10 minutes, try another hump and just keep going to these humps. The sandies will move from hump to hump chasing shad. If you see any schooling, throw a tiny torpedo or a road runner.

hope this helps.

both lakes are full of recreational boaters this time of year, but if its a week day Somervile is a little quieter.
