My first time to ever visit the lake and it was very interesting. I fished with Randy Qualls from Legend boats, we had a blast. Started out slow for us, Randy and I were throwing big baits, finally found a wad of fish in the 3 to 4 range and absolutely wore them out along with the other 6 boats that ended up in the area. We just started culling looking for the fattest belly. It will be interesting to see what comes out of the lake next December thru February.

Jeff Gilbert, Fun N Sun, thank you for all the hard work putting together such a great event.

Thanks Casey for hanging out with us (no need to throw me under the bus either!) and a big THANK YOU to all that came out. I'm sorry to be just now posting the results, but Monte and I have not stopped running until now. This was three weeks of solid work before the tournament; then we had to make sure everything went off without a hitch; then break down the weigh in and get out of the Squaw Creek Park; and then off to our Adult /Youth Tournament on Ray Roberts at 4:00 this morning. I didn't know how whipped and beaten I looked until I saw Monte this afternoon at weigh in and we thought we were looking into a mirror. Damn we were ragged....
(Side note on Monte- On his way home from SQ CR on Sat night, the tubs and supplies blew out of his truck and into a car, where he spent over an hour getting bitched at by the driver of the car and the Cop who gave him a ticket for unsecured load. This was after he changed the guys tire that blew out after he ran over the damage to his front end. Y'all might give Mr. Reagan a little hug when you see him.)

The tournament weights were not what some expected, and all though some are "tickled pink" because they think the fishing sucked for us, I'll say most of the donors/anglers were "tickled pink" because we caught so many! The fishing was awesome if you were in the right place. We caught at least 40+ fish, with all being from 3 pounds to the largest of 5.8. We had the same 6 plus on 3 times but still couldn't get it in. That's just how fishing goes, as did our chance to bring home the gold. We had 17.74 (good enough for 12 place). All in all, Heavy Bill and I had a great time and a great opportunity. That's was what we were hoping for when we signed up.

4 FISH STRINGERS

Results: 1st Place- 19.52 Casey Grigsby and Monty Grigsby $8,000 + $4,000 Calcutta
2nd 19.31 Troy Moncrief and Tracy Tomlin $2,000 + $2,000
3rd 19.17 Monte Coon and Gary Ables $1,500 + $1,100
4th 19.15 Danny Golden and Chris Gilroy $1,200 + $1000
5th 19.08 Charlie Credicott and Monty Mitchell $1,100 + $900
6th tie 18.80 Hunter Jordan and Sonny Fuller $950 + $775
6th tie 18.80 Kit Getchell and Shawn Getchell $950 + $775
8th 18.69 Spike Williams and Mike Daniels $800 + $700
9th 18.52 Trey McAlpine and Donnie Moore $700 + $650
10th 18.38 Daniel Stewart and J.D.Yarbrough $600 + $620

One thing that was common with everyone was that they thought that their fish seemed to look bigger than they weighed After looking at all of the fish, we noticed how long and thin the bass were across the back. They had nice bellies on most- like they were feeding- but just not the thickness of a normal healthy bass. Wilcox says that the fish in the old days were always skinny on the hot water lake, and now may be stunted from the sheer numbers of bass in the lake.

It was still a great day of fishing in my book, but more importantly: Myself and those that participated are "tickled pink" that we raised $20,325 for the children who desperately need it, and that was what it is -and should be- ALL ABOUT!
Thank You to those that believed in us,

JEFF GILBERT

The other thing that Jeff left out and I'm sure he is not wanting to toot his own horn was the strict fish care guidelines we all had to follow in order to fish this event. You had to monitor livewell temps and we were checked PRIOR to launch that each boat had at least 4 bags of ice, Please Release Me and peroxide in the boat. In addition we were all given "recipes" that outlined when and where water was to be pumped in the livewells and measuring instructions for the peroxide. All teams were also given a lesson on "fizzing" a fish. In addition when you arrived at weigh in for boat check they had real time weight cut offs and urged anyone with less than the weight needed to idle back out and release your catch. those that did that got to be a pretty good raffle for some great prizes.
Despite water temps in the 90's the fish were VERY lively at the end of the day and I saw ZERO dead fish weighed in. One of the things that Jeff and FnS stressed was taking care of the great resource the lake has in fish and making sure we left it just as good if not better than before we got there. Great job by all for that.

Jeff - Thanks again for running a great tourney. With all of the regulations involving that lake just getting out there was a feat in itself. It was my first time on the lake and I will definitely be back.

If 18.74 is "good for 12th" then why is 18.38 in 10th place?

I think he meant 17.74.

Question for those who were fortunate to fish on the lake in a boat? Was the selection made by draw, advertised tournament or by invitation?

Congrats to all who fished it.

Oops, yes I meant 17.74 and I edited my post. I was working on 8 hours of sleep over a 48 hour period

Basically, on the Friday that we got the OK from Homeland Security (April 16th), I sent a text to the people I had in my phone, that we were going public on Monday to fill the 80 spots we had (the Sheriff Dept and CAC reserved 20 for their people).
By Sunday at noon, the 15 or 20 I had told passed the word on to others and my phone blew up with the 80 commitments thus filling all I had. I know some were offended that I didnt call them but I just dont have the phone number to 50,000 people that I dont know, to ask them for a $400 donation. I tried to get the money for the charity the fastest way I knew how.
But since then we have put together another one for a Friday Big Bass Tournament with the United Way on June 18th. We want to give everyone on the TFF a chance to participate and the link is in the tournament section. Please call the United Way number provided and come try to win a brand new Skeeter boat!
Hope to see those that are interested on the water,
Jeff
