i still like the pro-rule saver myself.
can't stand the old school style. any of the newer ones like you listed are good.

I would never go back to the old school transom saver. Lots of reasons, but new style is far superior to the old style.

I'm going to go the opposite direction. I like the old school transom saves better. With the weight of today's engine, and the 8-12 inch jackplates a common place now days, I want the weight of the engine transfered to the trailer itself. The newer styles stabilize the engine, but do nothing to transfer the weight of the bouncing motor to the trailer.

on really long hauls, i would agree with bristow.
imho. if they can't make a transom strong enough to handle the boat/motor in rough water or just running down the lake, there is NO way it will handle it going down the road.
besides i've seen alot of old style savers come off the trailer going down the road and dig in, and flip the motor UP. kinda expensive for repairs. only way to eliminate that is to strap the front part of the transom saver around the bottom roller. that way it won't come off.

I will stick with the lock and haul type stabilizer. I checked with the manufacturer of the last two brands of boats I have had and they both recommended that type of stabilizer. Also, Skeeter is now including a lock and haul with every Skeeter that leaves the factory. If they were concerned about transom failure, I believe they would not do this.
To think that a piece of 1" aluminum or mild steel tube is taking any stress off a transom that has a 500#+ motor hanging on it is naive. A transom takes many times the stress of towing when flying across the lake at 70mph in a 2' chop. The transom is the strongest part of your boat. If it makes you feel better having a piece of flimsy tube connecting your motor to your trailer, fine, but it is doing nothing to relieve the stress on the transom.

Interesting topic.
I recently heard the theory that since there is NO WAY to lock the boat down to the trailer tight enough to keep it from hopping around in the stern while driving....that a transom saver can actually do more harm than good.
It supposedly works like this: Your transom saver is pushing against the trailer...but the boat moves up and down...then the transom saver increases the upward pressure on the engine foot, which transfers the energy to the transom. In other words, it's effect is reversed on bumpy roads. (and let's face it....all roads are bumpy now).
I'd have to give that some serious thought before I'd remove my transom saver, though..
Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.

Lock-n-Haul will prevent road shock being transferred to the motor via the trailer and will completely keep your motor from moving. You don't need steering clips or anything else. I also like the convienence of this type. It weighs almost nothing and you can throw it into a compartment when you take it off.

How are these Lock n Haul type supports any different than just using the lockout support(the one on the motor itself)? It sits at about the same place and when you trim down tight against the lock it does not move.

THIS is what I have used for three years. It works great and I have ZERO complaints about it.
