i live in colorado springs now due to military and i wasnt really much of the trout kinda guy. but i started to fish for them and you can catch some pretty rainbows or brown trout on powerbait marshmellows or salmon eggs or you can use a blue fox or rooster tail spinner and catch them all on your everyday fishing rod and reels. i dont like to fly fish so i havent tried that. hope this helps

bob, send a PM to ToledoBendTexasSide. He has a place up there and is a nice guy. Just don't get in a political discussion with him! (sorry TBTS)

Time to get a nice ultra light set up. A small spinning real with 6 lb test on a wispy 6-7 foot rod will do you right. For the kids uglystick has a decent ultra light combo. Get a bunch of small inline spinner and some spoons and you will be set.

1st off bring some light Jean jackets or sweats.
Leaving Texas for Wyoming and the HIGH elevation is different.
Cameras, cameras, and more cameras. Batteries too!
You know what route you are taking? Thats very important.
Let me know. We can put this thing together.

Native Texan here, but lived in AZ and CO. Just started Fly-fishing before I left CO., with little luck.
Best luck I had? Rod and Reel with Salmon eggs on a small hook. Use an adjustable clear bobber (they're as plentiful as red/wht bobbers are here) if fishing a lake.
If fishing a stream (where I had better luck), a salmon egg on a small hook dropped on the dead-water side of a boulder got me a bite 85% of the time.
Contrary to what many Texas fishermen believe, trout is good eatin! No need to fry, just tin foil, seasonings (of your choice), and a bed of coals.
Damn! I'm salivating!
Good Luck!!!

No matter how warm it is here when you leave, take some warm clothes with you, including a light jacket. Early morning and late evening temps are still low during June. The mosquitos are also huge, so bring some repellent.
Take a spinning reel combo (ugly stick is my favorite trout rod) with a smaller size reel and 4-6lb. test. If your fishing a lake then salmon eggs are the ticket along with the lures I'm about to mention. If your fishing a stream or river then get a good supply of Panther Martins and Mepps Black Fury (small size).
The thing you must remember when fishing a stream, is stealth fishing. The water is clear and the trout have very good eyes. I'm talking getting down on your hands and knees to sneak up on a pool or beaver dam in a stream.
After being back in Texas from living 12 years in Colorado, I forgot how critical stealth fishing for trout was. My friends who still live there will often wear a camo shirt with his shorts on a creek adventure.

Another trout lure I've had great success with is a Super Duper. They look like a bent piece of flat metal, but they are deadly!

Check the local regs up there before you use bait. You might not be able to use it in certian areas.
