The fish was caught in a small lake where bigger boats (that would have a livewell) are not permitted. It was caught late one evening and she tried, but could not locate anyone to officially weigh the fish from what I understand. It is unfortunate it expired, but it was a difficult situation. If it had been officially weighed the evening she caught it, it would have most likely been a new state record. Congrats to her on a great catch.

First of congrats to the lady on a once in a lifetime catch. Second, if I ever see someone open a cooler of ice and pull out a fish of that quality I will either fight back tears or cuss words. I have a boat with a live well so it is hard to say what I would have done in the situation, but if I knew that the only way to weigh the fish was to kill it I would have had a real dilemma to keep it or just let the howg swim away.
