I would guess that there has been some bait-bucket biology from Texoma or Bridgeport or both.

That appears to my untrained eye to be a reservoir strain smallmouth (like at Texoma) not one of the stream varieties (smaller, leaner like those in SE Oklahoma streams and at Lake Murray).

And while I guess it's possible that the same 5-lb. smallie got caught twice, I would highly doubt that's the case.

Anyone catching any small smallmouths? (evidence of spawning success)

Is there an issue having smallmouth in the same Lake as largemouth? I would love to have an option to get some smallies on occasion.

No, happens in every lake in Texas where smallmouths are stocked (largemouths and smallmouths coincide).

They coincide very nicely together at Texoma.

If TPWD is against the idea, then I'm guessing that smallmouths just don't fit the overall management plan for RR for some reason or the thought is that they wouldn't survive very well in that particular lake.

I thought Moss Lake (I've heard they have smallmouth) was upstream and drains into the Trinity, which I thought, drains into RR. It flooded a couple of times a few years back. If this is correct, maybe their coming from there.

According to Google Earth Moss lake spills into the Red River. But Lake Kiowa dumps into Ray Bob and they can stock what ever they want in that tasty little morsel of a lake.
