I dont think so...it has 2 creeks I floated all the way up into both of them..one ends and the other just trickles down into a stream..yes the fish look very unhealthy..so unhealthy my initial thought was striper b/c they dont have the trademark "football" shape. I don't know much if anything about pond management. All were released of course. Pond is pretty big. its over 60 years old.

Springfield Park ponds right next to my house has almost everything it. Sandbass, Gar, LMB, drum, carp, crappie and shad. Those ponds are only stocked with Channel cats. Right Netx to those ponds is Rowlett creek. I bet some of those fishes got in there during huge floods. I wonder if thats how those Hybrids got into that pond.

Knot at work,

I'd keep 'em next time. More than likely they are going to die anyway.

Doubtful, Hybrid stripers are true hybrids and will almost never ocur naturally. This is also why they are sterile. Because they have to be "man made" it's doubtful that there would have been any stripers in the creek.

Well, after 10 days in the hospital away from a computer, I return to find that the Hybrid Striper post continued and survived the negatism.

I will not respond to those posts because my experience with HSB has been positive and one of the most fun pond projects ever for me.

Accept the fact that hybrid striped bass are a non-reproductive put and take fish, and one of the hardest fighting sport fish available for the pond owner.

The only requirement is good water quality management to maintain hardness and high alkalinity. An aggressive feeding program is required.
An annual stocking ladder of 25 8-10 inch HSB/acre is recommended to produce at least a 3-5 lb hybrid each trip to the pond and are the easiest fish to catch my son catches them on spinner baits and rattle traps and I am a fly guy.
They will fight til they die unless landed quickly, revived and released.
If they dont make it, give them the honor of joining you for dinner they are excellent table fare.

The only documented failure of HSB has been repeatedly reported on this forum.
My program is well documented with high-resolution photos with rulers and boga scales, and I have several friends that have been more successful.

This program obviously is not for every pond owner but for me it has been a blast.

Ill post a few photographs for fun:

The hybrids are getting stalked today. I am very excited to start fishing for them. They are going to be between 2 and 3 pounds. Should be fun on the fly rod.

we were fishing under the 1097 bridge at lake Conroe two weeks ago. This was roughly 9.6lbs. At first I thought he was hooked on a trot line as I was 5 minutes earlier. would Love to have these in my pond, but I like catfish better.

Coppernose Blue Gill are a favorite of mine with common 11 inchers over a pound a year ago.
Been grounded with health problems since late winter so hope to see a 2 pound/12 inch CNBG this year - I can dream can't I?
smile

Also Florida, native feed trained and F1 Largemounth Bass, Redear Sunfish, and Tilapia in the warmer months.

By the way, if you check the pictures you will see that the 4lb fatty Hybrids are from a 1/4 acre pond with no aeration but with suplemental feeding. No LMB at the time in little pond but now "growing out" some pure DNA certified Florida LMB for broodstock.

The 5 and 6+ lb hybrids are from our 2 acre pond with aeration and supplemental feeding.

I expect hybrids up to 8 lbs this year (dream on grin ) - my son was "broken off" by a fish he claimed better than 8 lbs but may have just been a fish story.

Thanks for your interest - fun stuff!! cool

cheers

Love the hybrids even better than pure stripers - more fight in the fish!
