OK, help a dummy out, I have tried jigging spoons for white/hybrids on Somerville and Lake Houston, I can catch them on cast baits and live bait, but I cannot catch them on spoons. A few pointers please!!

This time of year work them real slow, and when you think you are working them slow enough....slow down. Almost no movement.

Non- boater ?-
If you are not fishing from a boat, the jiggin
spoon is a hard bait to use. You just cannot
make the right presentation.
If you are fishing from a boat, the right rod is
very important. In cold weather the strike is
often as light as any crappie bite.

Stay in contact with the bait, from line to rod tip, most bites are on the fall. Like Mo said sensitive rods are a must because the strike can be just a tickle and 99% of the time its on the fall. This time of year they do not like much movement, but I can't just hold it without moving it some. Leave enough line out once your spoon hits the bottom to where your rod is parallel to the water then jig up and down or leave it still what ever you get bit on the most. I never get real radical, usually just 2 or 3 short jigs up with the tip then follow it back down with the rod on the fall, then get ready. This is verticle jigging. It also depends on the size spoon. I had reluctance at 1st to use a 1oz spoon, but it don't matter on my lake, and the feel is better with a 1oz or better. Most new people I take don't really ever feel the hit at 1st, they start their next movement up and go, "hey I got a fish". Hope it helps.
