I was fortunate enough to be invited to fish this past Saturday. I was told it was slow compared to the other days people fished and it turned out to be one the best fishing days I've ever had. Man I would like to guide on this lake right now! You could take a novice fisherman out there and still load the boat with four pounders. Smallest one we caught went about 1.5 and the biggest was close to 5. Our best five would have been around 20-21 pounds. Those fish are stacked all over the lake. And to top it off, the catfishing is even better!

Hey All, I have been talking regularly to the "powers that be" at Squaw Creek and am happy to announce that we will have Mr.Sid Underwood- who is in charge of the park- at our meeting at 6:00 pm SHARP tomorrow evening at my Fun-n-Sun Boats Hurst location. This meeting has been mentioned on other forums, but I just wanted to confirm that any questions concerning the lake will be answered tomorrow evening. Your all invited to come listen and eat free hot dogs and chips and also learn a little about how to "fizz" or deflate, bass after being caught in deep water.
Should be lots of fun and I hope to meet some of you there. Thanks, Jeff Gilbert

I also posted this in the tournament section, but thought some of you with Squaw Creek interest might have questions about this event:
The first 100 teams to register with the UNITED WAY of Hood County will compete for a brand new SKEETER SX190 BASS BOAT with 150 Yamaha ProV on June 18th! This is a big bass only event with 6 hourly paybacks of $1,000. Largest Bass wins the boat provided by Fun-n-Sun Boat Sales with a retail value of $31,800. Entry is a $1,000 tax deductible donation and limited to only 100 teams- first come, first serve. We will be handling the actual weigh in for the charity but ALL REGISTRATION and CORRESPONDENCE will be handled by the United Way staff at 817-319-1067 or email at: uwhc@hcnews.com
This will be on a Friday after the lake has been closed to boaters all week and will be open that day exclusively for the donors. You can fish up to three people in the boat to help ease the cost or fish alone and try to win it by yourself. Whatever the case, just please remember that the United Way is a great organization that works with tireless volunteers and also that this is a great cause. The fliers and more info will be presented at the Fun-n-Sun Boats in Hurst meeting tomorrow night 6:00 (May 20th) to everyone who comes out to enjoy some free food and fellowship.
Please consider fishing to help the cause, and win a new boat in the process! Jeff Gilbert _________________________

I think this lake needs to be "Catch and Release" only for Bass.

I think taking some out would benifit the size of the fish. Seems like everyone is catching numbers but no lunkers. Don't get me wrong, ill take 20+ 3-6 lb fish any day of the week.

30 dollars a boat is what Im hearing. Thats 36000.00 a month for Luminant. I think that would cover the staff and then some. A far cry from the 5 dollars a boat I use to pay. I think I would rather fish at one of North Texass many quality basseries where I can just back my boat in the water and go fishin without a curfew. Boat gas is expensive enough without having to pay another 30 bucks on top of that to go catch fish that your tax dollars paid for in the first place. I would understand getting off of the lake by 4 in the fall and winter, but in the summer that leaves over 4 hours of daylight that you cant even fish.

Thanks to everyone who came out and ate supper and enjoyed a good meeting about the tournament on Saturday on Squaw Creek. We had over 250 people come out, including special guest Mayor Mike Moncrief, who got up and spoke about us anglers overcoming the terrorist act that shut our lake down and getting back to enjoying the fishing on Squaw. It was really cool that I asked him to fit us in on his VERY busy schedule and he had no problem. I've known the family for awhile and can tell you, he's a good man who's passions are child advocacy work and fishing, so he was very happy to come by with his lovely wife Rosie. We also had Sid Underwood, who is over the park, on hand to tell us all about the future of the lake, rules, fees, etc. They are really doing good things for us out there. Here are some of the Squaw Creek FACTS he talked about that might dispell some of the rumors and "witch hunts". 1) The Lake is PRIVATE property, and we are guest- not owners of anything out there. However they are glad to have us as guest and welcome us to fish the waters. They are the new owners of the property, and are really fixing up things out there. They are already in the hole for $100,000 in repairs of pot holes, docks, fences, mowing, etc. With the fees they are charging, all money will go towards the park. This is NOT a profit source for the Energy Co. They need another $250,000 to redo the road, which after being there yesterday to set up for the tournament tomorrow, I can tell you is in bad shape. They also have a staff to pay to manage the park. 2) The boat launch fee is $30 per vehicle. THAT IS NOT PER PERSON as some seem to believe. If three guys go fishing in one boat, thats $10. If 8 people are in the car, still $30. Wow 3) Bank fishing is $5 per person. 4) For security reason that Homeland Security prohibits them to discuss, the hours are 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Friday thru Sunday. Bank fisherman get Thursday also. No tube fishing allowed. 5) They have plans to add nice picnic areas as the funds allow for it. 6) Charity events will be scheduled from time to time and the lake will have exclusivity to the charity. 7) To get on the lake you will have to put your name on a list on Luminants website and they will update it on who gets in. You will only get to go under your name ONE time per weekend. However they understand that John may go Friday; Bill may go Saturday; Henry may go Sunday- and they are all fishing together those three days. Thats fine, but they still need a system. 8) NO SKIING! NO PWC! YEAH!!!! Fishing only. Thats basically it, but I can tell you these new owners are really trying to cater to the anglers and I hope everyone can appreciate it and I do. My understanding is there has been NO TPW stocking since the lake was closed therefore the argument that WE paid for the fish every year with our liscense fee doesnt hold water. I hope we can move past the whining and compaining about the past and look forward to a future of great fishing on Squaw Creek.
Back on last nights Fun-n-Sun meeting: The tournament entries for Saturday were able to raise up enough money to let us present a check to the Child Advocacy Center for $20,325! Thank you to all that paid to fish this event! Honey Hole All Outdoors was on hand filming the meeting and after Bill Wilcox talked a little about fish care on the lake, we started the Calcutta auction. On top of the $18,200 entry cash prize, we added another $12,600 in Calcutta money! Anyway, it was a real fun deal and great to see everyone come out. We had fun and are looking forward to more great times on Saturday while fishing for over $31,000 in cash! See all contestants on the lake, Jeff Gilbert Fun-n-Sun Boats Sales

Great info man. I agree, the road is in bad shape...good to see a plan to smooth it out.
I see no tube fishing...did they include kayaks in that? I know one guy was kayak fishing last Friday. I sure hope they allow them.

Yes kayaks are same rules as boats.
