Ive owned both, and now fish Shimano exclusively! Shimano fans will tell you shimano, garcia fans will tell you garcia.
Go to the store and see how each of them feel to YOU and then make your decision.

If you want comfort and smoothness the STX all the way. Other reels contort my hand in such away that my hand starts hurting after a while. The STX will fit your hand perfect.

I've owned both, and it seemed every trip out I would pick up a (insert Revo, or Shimano brand here) and think to myself "man, why did I bother buying the other brand...this one is much better"!
The next trip out was usually just the opposite!......they're both VERY good reels, and neither should be a disappointment.

It's a Chevy/Ford thing. People have these self perceived qualities they attribute to a reel whether it's there or not. It's 100% personal taste, really. If you like the aesthetics of one you'll probably end up thinking it performs better than the other. If you've owned an older version of the reel like a Curado B series or an old Ambassadeur Black Max that you caught a ton of fish with and loved, then you'll like the new incarnation. I really wish there was a way to mask a reel's appearance and use two or three side by side for a few days before picking one.

i have 5 shimano reels one of them being a e-7 and a revo stx. i voted for the curado but the only gripe i have about the revo is it is not nearly as quiet casting as the shimano's, but distance is just as good

I have had both and sold my stx's. I am not bashing them but I prefer the Curado. For me the STX took longer to get adjusted and when I changed baits or weights I had to start all over again with the adjusting. I feel like I can cast lighter baits better with my shimanos also.
To be perfectly honest since you have said it will be your only combo you will probably love whichever one you get and when the time comes to add another reel to your arsenal you will probbably get another one of that one.

I go with the Curado because of the braking system but you cant go wrong with either.

I have and like both, however it is fairly easy to maintain, clean and replace parts with all shimano reels. The website has schematics for all shimano reels.

Curado's are smooth. Revos dont have the brake system that Curados do. Like Curado more for casting. Like the Abu for flipping and pitching with braid
