Hi I was wondering if you guys thouhgt it was necessary to tie a mono leader to your braided line when fishing lures and jigs.

the reason i tie one on mine is cause my braided line is a green color and when the water isnt green it stands out alot, i know u can buy braided of various colors to fit the water but can get expensive.

was wondering what your thoughts are on this, i know of anglers that do the same as me but i know others that dont but they are usually fishing conditions where their line blends in and dont worry about the fish noticing it.

I quit using a leader about a year ago and haven't noticed any difference in the amount of hook ups I get. I use 20# Power Pro. Once the PP starts fading its hard to see in the water anyway. Some people swear by leaders, I don't think it makes any difference.

The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.

Redfish will see the braid 75% of the time! Trout you can get away with it for the most part. What kind of species are you are you targeting usually

I have been using Power Pro since 1994.

Mono leader with braid or not - your gonna catch fish and I catch trout, reds and flounder all the time w/ or w/o mono leader on the braided line from Power Pro.

The only difference is that it's easier for some people to tie a knot on their jig or lure w/ a mono leader than the thinner Power Pro braid.

Other than that, it's all goooooooooooooood !!!!

I use Stren Sonic Braid and do not use any type of leader. The thing i do use is a Spike-it black garlic marker to color the first six feet of line. This almost makes the line invisible in clear or any water. I fish some ponds that have five to six feet of visibility.

I like to go straight braid if I'm fishing with a jig head, but I still like to tie on a mono leader under a cajun thunder popper.

Surprised that nobody has chimed in with flourocarbon leaders. I like to use the flouro leaders under popping corks. Like to give my live bait a very natural, unobtrusive look.

I'm not a chick.

thanks for all the advice guys i guess the general consensus is that it is not neeeded.... so the color of the fishing line doesnt really matter? i just felt like a dark green line in muddy water would stand out
