I know Lake Aquilla has quite a few sand bass in it. Anyone know where I should start looking for them this time of the year? Thanks in advance for any help.

There is a willow island (the size of a 2 car garage) just south of the main lake point. I have tied up on that island when there is a south wind and limited out numerous times casting rattletraps to the east. Also, trolled baits from Dairyhill to the dam to Old School cove should locate fish for you. Once found, slab or throw rattltraps.

The willow island comes and goes with the lake level; right now it may be underwater. That area is good for sandies and largemouths. From there, cruise across toward the last point up from the east end of the dam and watch your graph. There is an area almost straight across from the Dairy Hill ramp along the edges of the submerged creek channel that often holds fish. This time of year watch for any gulls that may still be around. A few years ago in early June I picked up one lonely gull that dived into the water and led me to a school of sandies that I caught until my arms hurt. One note on lure color - I have always done better on white or silver on that lake. Slabs, Little Georges and Rattle Traps have all produced for me.
