Go check out the Whites Hybrids and striper section. But to answer your question if you have shad thats the easiest. Depending on the time of year will depend on the depth. right now on Buchanan catching them shallow in the morning then around 20ft in the day in 40 ft of water. lots of variables.

Main lake points around daybreak and dark with a topwater is a good way to start. Pencil popper or Super Spook. Catching and keep shad alive can be pretty tough if you don't have much experience.

stripers move so much, its just a day to day thing.
honestly it can be in 5ft one day and the very next day in 50ft. They do pattern themselves according to the time of the year, but its a fish you have to find on a daily basis...they constantly move.
baits: shad, perch, big shiners, slabs, big swimbaits, etc...

If you wwant to lure fish and not mess with shad then hire a guide who specializes in lure fishing. If you want to fish with shad then you could hire a guide but the shad catching part is most of the battle. Most guides get up real early and get thier shad before picking up the customers. Shad are the best way to consistently catch stripers but fishing with shad is also a commitment to getting the righht equipment. Lake depth and contours make a big difference as far as the actual fish patterns. Texoma is relatively deep with big drop offs in to the river. Typically the stripers are on these drop offs. They will surprise you at times though and go in to more of a summer pattern in May and early June. I would say that in lakes closer to Dallas like Tawakoni humps are the way to go. A lot depends on where the bait is. Fish suspended at 60' in 90' of water are a little more challenging than fish relating to bottom structure.

Don't know what to tell you about 'the best way' to catch stripers but for the most fun, right a first light, is to throw a topwater popper and have them explode on the surface!! It is for me anyway.....

Oh forget it... I thought you said "strippers". I can't help you on the stripers. Except for Lake Lewisville in the summer when they're hitting top water. Then I really look like I know what I'm doing. Just throw any top water plug like lure or a shallow running cb. That's almost as fun as catching stri... Oh man, here I go again. lol
