I've fished all my life but have never thrown frogs. Can I get some opinions on types and setups to throw? I'm fishing ponds with a lot of pads and am ready to try something new.

don't go less than 50lb braid... The Spro frogs and the ribbit type both work well.

for the soft plastic toads, I prefer the Stanley Ribbits. for the hollow bodies I like the Spro and have had some luck with the H2O express frogs. For the ribbits, I use a 4/0 or 5/0 Mustad ultra point wide gap hook. Some people like the weighted keel swimbait hooks or the new double frog hooks but that is just my preference.
Some folks say that fishin on a Sunday is a sin, but if a fish bites my line, you know I'm gonna reel him on in!

I love fishing frogs. I fished the Strike King rage tale, I would put a 5/0 hook on there. My hook up ration was horrible, I just tried the Snag proof Bass kicker frog and I love it. It has paddles on it so it makes alot of noise. It has double hooks and they work well. I just found it harder with the rage tale to get hook ups. Also use braid I put 65 pound on mine. And count to 2 before you set the hook.

Do you want to keep it on the surface at all times, and do you pause or twitch it? What do you do with it when you get to the openings in the pads? Thanks for the feedback.

Ribbit, zoom horny toad. Setup them up with a big stiff rod, 50lb+ braid, and a 4/0,5/0,6/0 EWG hook Gamakatsu. You should be just fine

Does the Spro come with it's own hook set up or do you make your own up?

Fishing ribbit type frog, you can often let it sink aa bit and get hammered. Like with anything else, vary your retrieve until you see what they like.
For sure braid especially with floaters like Spros. My hook-up ratio went through the roof once I started throwing braid.
One of the toughest things for me is waiting before setting the hook. It's easier when you're getting bit good but when one suprises you my reaction is to jerk it out of its mouth.
My favorite thing to do with a Spro is to work it over a grass mat. Pop it a couple times and then let it sit. start shaking your rod until it starts to quiver -- I don't think many bass can resist that.

yes, they have their own hooks. But Spro is very proud of their products. I would look at H20 if you don't want to spend an arm and a leg.
