Hey guys,

I recently had the impeller changed out and after that when i put her in the water the motor wont go into reverse. It takes a while idling to go into forward without dying but i chalked that up to it being an older motor and taking time to warm up. But even after a hour on the lake, I tried putting it in reverse and it dies on me. Any suggestions on what it could be? Thanks.

Could be that the idle is set too low. You should be idleing at 900 to 950 rpm in neutral if it is lower than that, The engine does not have enought momentum to go into gear without dying.

It sounds like the shift shaft was incorrectly aligned when the lower unit was bolted back up after the impeller was installed. Need to lower the lower unit and reposition the shift shaft....fairly simple task.

If you had the work done at a service shop, take it back and let them know they screwed up.
