I usually keep a cheap six footer in the boat for throwing around docks or places that I don't know very well. It's good for getting into tight spots too. For everything else in TX I use 7 ft calusa crackers. Great nets for the money. If I'm on Okie side of Texoma I use my 10 ft cracker. I just wish TX would up the size limit on cast nets. Learn on the 7' net. I'm going to try the baitbuster net when it's time to buy another. With nets you get what you pay for so buy the best you can afford. Limp mono and a six panel design are well worth the extra dough. Always carry a spare cause sooner or later you will get one hung. It doesn't matter what the net costs, It's like getting punched in the gut.

if your just wanting a cheap net that is made of good quality and is a pretty good net for the money get the ones from acadamy for a summer/spring/early fall net but in the winter time i would get one from justcastnets like chase mentioned or get one of the big 7' heavy nets from cabelas they are pricy but well worth the money

the main difference between summer and winter nets is in the winter you need your net to sink faster thus meaning you need more weight generally 1.5-2lbs per square foot and in the summer you can still catch plenty of shad using a 3/4lb per square foot net

dont start off with a big net. Academy has 4 foot nets with a training ring inside. Works good for beginners. Then work your way up to a 6 or 7 foot net. Another thing , those 7 foot nets will wear your [censored] out. My cousin bought a 8 foot net in san antonio and he can flat throw a net let me tell you7. I know 8 foot is illegal. I guess they sell them there for costal .

I struggled for years throwing a net! I watched a video on youtube and it seemed too easy so I got out in the front yard and threw it a few times and was amazed how easy it really is! These days I have a hard time screwing up a throw!

a 7ft light net is no harder to throw than a smaller net once you learn how. less throws less work IMO

You can but a video at most stores that sell cast nets. That's how I learned, too. With me what I had to learn was not to try so hard.
Ever since I quit putting so much effort into it, I have done pretty well. It's like golf, When you relax, it comes out better.
And the man is right. IT is just as easy to throw a big net as a small net. Once you learn the technique on the video, the net size does not matter. Something else I have learned: shad love boat ramps and boat ramps do not usually eat cast nets.

Started out with nothing and still have most of it left.

For the rich there is therapy; for the rest of us there is fishing.

Unless your aim is horrible like mine and you throw just to the side of the ramp at GV. That tends to chew big holes in them.
