I have a Ambassadeur 6600 BCX model reel. Unfortunately I took the cheap way out do you get what you pay for. The line guide doesnt move side to side on the worm gear. It gets stuck on the far end of the worm gear and the line just piles up on that side. I took it apart and cleaned everything and dont know why. I wanted to try and fix this to have as a back-up reel if not to costly. Has anyone had any problems like this or any recommendations on what might be the issue? I thought about buying a new Pawl for it. The little piece that runs on the worm gear in the line guide. I think thats what its called. Any suggestions to repair or where to start???

you likely need a new pawl...Academy sells them for the Ambassadeurs and it's likely the same part for the BCX...

I'd take the reel in with me to check.

It won't cost much to fix even if it needs a new worm shaft (which academy sells as well).

I will never buy another one of those reels, have only had it about 6 months.

The pawl for the BCX reels is not the same as for the other Abu's. It and the worm gear are different. I work on lots of Abu reels, and the BCX seems to always have levelwind problems. It's either the worm, the pawl, or the idler gear, or some combination of the three! The money to upgrade to the regular c3 or c4 reels at Academy is well worth it.

I never have problems with worm gear on Abu Gacia Sweden .The BCX made in China

Love my 5500C3 and 5600C4WS Abu's.

the BCX will always have line guide problems until they either go back to old design or get different materials.
