I'll be paddling down the Brazos next weekend below PK and need to know if it's even worth bringing the rod, did flushing the lake ruin the river fishing for a while? If not, what fish should I be looking for and what lures should I be using? Thanks y'all

I have read reports that people are still catching fish so I would bring a rod. Then again I will fish in a rain puddle.
There are lots of different species in the River. There are spots, large and smallmouth bass. There are also stipers, sandies, catfish(I have caught channels and flatheads but i assume there are blues), gar, carp, and tons of sunfish/bluegills.
Any lures that you would usually use for any of those species work. What I do is take a plano 3700 and fill it with these general lure. - Skitter poppers - Rebel Cricket popper - Original Rapala - Rooster tails in dif size and color - Swimbaits Use shad colors and dif sizes - 1/8 jig heads - Zoom Flukes w/ matching hooks - Few shallow crankbaits Bandit's 100 series - Couple jigs At least 1 blck/blue and 1 natural craw pattern - Live bait stuff.
These lure have all worked and fish what ever you like to use. The water is usually clear so stick to natural patterns. If I stop and slow down to bass fish I usually throw Flukes. If I am paddling b/w spots I troll sassy's. I have caught some nice fish just paddling around. The best part about trolling sassys is that they have 1 hook and it faces up so minimal snags.
Good luck!!!

No but I would keep some live perch and fresh cut shad handy, thats prolly gonna be the best bait IMO

Live bait works really well. If you can catch bait that is. Shad are pretty hard to catch but bluegill arent too difficult. When you stop and camp try to catch some bait, but when im paddling around i usually dont bother with live bait.

unfortunately I got the call on my way down there that the Brazos River authority opened the gates at PK releasing 30,000 cfs. Next time...
