I figured this would probably be the best place to post this, I am looking to buy a SOT kayak. I am thinking around 12 footer single seat. I have had the bass boats, float tubes, bass busters, and personal pontoon. I had to sell my bass boat last year due to finances I bought a personal pontoon. They are pretty cool but wind is a major factor and now I want to become a kayak fisherman. If anyone has one for sell I am open for offers, just let me know. Thanks.

Out of what looks to be available on CL right now this is the one I'd want: Hobie If you're looking to get into one on the cheap this one is not a bad deal, particularly if you get them to knock off another $25, but its a little smaller than what you were looking for: Pelican I'm not a fan of pelican tho.

call colleen at heart of texas kayaks and pick up something in the $600 range. You can get a nice manta ray 11 or a redfish 12 like I have. They have a shop in grapevine and Temple.

Spend the extra cash on the Hobie. You'll be glad you did. Being able to control the boat while fishing or fighting a fish is the only way to go. I hated trying to use my paddle to get out of a jam while fighting a fish. With the Hobie, it's not a problem.

I always thought a Hobie would be nice to be able to hold a spot in some current whilst I was fishing a hole. One of these days I'll not have to end up spending my "dream yak fund" on emergency plumbing, car repair, kids dental work, etc. and I'll let ya'll know! lol

Tapping the rudder control with your left hand while peddling forward is a whole lot easier than using a paddle. Not to mention that when your arms get tired, your kinda screwed if you are a good distance from your destination. It's nice to have the choice to peddle with your legs or paddle with your arms. Hobie mirage drive, awesome.

I agree with you on the Hobie, I have watched all the videos on them. But right now they are just not in my budget. especially this month, mothers day, daughters b-day, wifes b-day. And I think everybody knows if they aint happy I aint happy. I am gonna have to stick around the 3-5 hundred range or wait another month or so. I may just end up waiting instead of settling for something.

Ricky, I have a fairly cheap sit on top yak and I've redneck engineered it to be exactly the way I want it. I didn't spend a lot (about 375 with depthfinder and all) and I have fished everywhere from Copono Bay to Texoma on it. Eventually I'll buy me a Hobie proangler but until that day I've never regretted settling for my cheap-o which has put me in a lot of water and on a lot of fish.

Try as many as you can before making a purchase. Big demo day at Grapevine on the 15th. Chance to test paddle a lot of yaks for free.

Hobie mirage drive, awesome. Hobie's are great, no doubt, but when looking at new yaks, you're talking about as much as a grand or more of a cash outlay. Just get yourself a conventional yak in the 600-700 range and put an anchor trolley on it. You can do it without drilling into the yak. Same results.
