Brandon,
I just do not put an SD card in the units to take pictures.
It's an ever changing thing - but for me (on SI - I'm looking for bunches of fish before we ever even start fishin (and drop down) - what looks like a ton of fish - where folks say - I CAN NOT EVEN DROP IT TO THE BOTTEM before they have a fish)
It looks white on SI or just bunches of fish (left or right) and then just hit mark and drive back to that way point - but to catch the BIGS - it will be on the deep side - VERY, VERY SOON.

mark,
during this "next phase" do you leave your "MP tnts" tied on or do you change to other size'color slabs?
during this next phase will fish remain at the same depth they are now... or do they move deeper (throughout the day or all the time)?

During the next phase - with the smaller baits hatching out - and being all over the lake - it might be good to go smaller - but for me as a guide I stick with the bigger and get er done. Lots and enough will be in the usual spots - but DO NOT disregard those smalls out in the middle of no where - under those can be a GOLD MINE (just like the last time we went out - out in the middle of no where - and under those - there they were - 20 feet down (under the smalls) - seen on the deep finders - there they were and we quickly finished limiting out on those Bigs too - to add to those Crappie, Blues and White Bass - O'ya - what a day that was) You and dad were throwing out and couting to 10 before reeling in (4 inch Sassy Shads with 1oz lead heads)- I was watching my depth finder and with a slab and seeing it dropping right on thier heads - 20 feet down),

Yeah thats all right! that one was a day for the records books..
so like when you say smalls "out in the middle of nowhere" (like the hyrbid spot we hit with dad in 50') i asssume you mean under shad...right? in other terms.. your going along watchin sonar and you see a big shad school scared in deep water... or wherever.. under those.. can be gold...??
also.. RC is fairly "clear" water... same color when going to stained.. (via toledo bend)???

I'm talking about small fish (small White Bass) feeding on small - fresh hatched shad on top of the water - just go very slow and look under them on your depth finder - if you see (BIG FISH under those) - that is it! (then know how to fish them - with a drop down count or a reel up count - using a slab, working the water colume - right in front of their nose).
It does not happen often - but it is worth a look.

Mark keep an eye on Chase out there, I think you may have turned him onto those TNT's last year, he recently ordered up some custom stuff, man do I like doing customs. Hope he likes them look forward to hearing how they work on RC...he even mentioned naming them the Chase Curtis Special, Good thread Mark, from what I have been hearing fishing is fantastic down there, keep up the good work.

Hi Dennis!
I am eager to hear what you have to say.
I have a pretty good handle for fishing for white's on Lake Waco. I have a few good underwater structures that I fish regularly and generally do well.
I have the best luck with live bait, minnows, just of the bottom. I do my best during the late spring, summer and early fall. Do you find you can find fish year round on this same structure? Do you find your strategies are failry univeral and translate to other lakes?
Is it the same strategy for lakes with hybrids?

WacoKid, thanks for the interest. I normally fish structures from March thru November, but this past year I also fished Dec - Feb to see if I could still catch them in the colder weather. I caught them in Dec and Jan but not Feb and not until late March due to unusually cold winter.
The structure techniques do work on other lakes. I fished Limestone once, Whitney once, Tawakani once, Buchannan once, Palestine once and Richland Chambers 4 times and caught limits of white bass each place. I have also fished lake Waco twice with grandson who lives there, and we caught over our limit (catch and release) both times. We caught them on the old Hwy 6 roadbed and on the original, submerged dam.
The same strategy works whether there are hybrids in the lake or not. My technique does catch a lot of hybrids as well as occasional catfish, crappie, drum, buffalo and black bass - I just don't target hybrids or the other fish.

Okay so lets talk more about how to catch fish All of them - Hybrids/Stripers White Bass Blues and those elusive Black Bass and Crappie.
Right now go with the shad (in the spring) look for them to be shallow (I use to ignore those birds in the spring hunting shallow but to catch Big Bass and/or Hybrids/Stripers that is the ticket early in the morning).
And those Blues are right in there with them (and will be shallow 1 to 6 feet for a few more weeks right up next to those wind blown banks).
Always watch for the birds (April and May) they show you where they are.
Most of the year its humps and under water points that is their feeding grounds that is where they are seen on your electronics.
During the next few weeks (mid May and early June) they can be anywhere once those young shad pop out then, do not over look them In No Man Lands just look under those and possibly its a Gold Mine (about 20 feet down under those).
Right now just stick to the shallows but that is going to change quick,

I would like your Opinion on the Navionics Platinum Mapping software. I like the idea of the 3d map feature. Any thoughts?

I would like your Opinion on the Navionics Platinum Mapping software. I like the idea of the 3d map feature. Any thoughts? Brandon, I have not tried it - but I'm thinking I have the Standard Navionics map with the 1 foot contour lines - I do not think I need to see that in 3d. Those maps ARE GREEAT and point you to the key spots - but those contour lines work pretty good (and really none of that is really completely accurate - but close - seeing that (I think) in 3d - Not for me - but with that and your SI and your 2d - you see exactly what is down there - real time. Technology is great and I will not fish with out it (but seeing what they think is down there shown in 3d is just another version of the image of what they think is down there (and that is GOOOD) but add SI & 2d to see the real thing - it's magic - the real whole story), But contour lines versus a 3d presentaion - it's just another view and not totally accurate anyhow (but all good taken into account with the whole),
