Here is what I do to take care of the problem with treble hooks and dip or punch baits. I bought one of them plastic lure covers that you can put your complete lure into at the bass pro shop. They are grey and they snap shut and has a plastic retainer you can clip onto your fishing pole. Then on the plastic I put on a strip of the sticky back vecro tape. Then I bought me some of the velcro that does not have any of the sticky back on it. Then all you have to do is put your treble hook into it and snap it shut. Then to keep it on your pole and out of everything you take the non sticky back vlecro and put it on one side of the plastic box and wrap it around your rod and stick it to the velcro on the other side. I even put my sinker in them from time to time also. This takes care of any problem you might have with things getting tangled up in your vehicle plus keeps the stinky treble hook enclosed in plastic so it will not get on anything. I have done this to all of my fishing poles no matter what type of hook i use. It is my solution to keep things organized and keep the stink under a wrap.

You can get diabetic strip holders, most people know someone that checks there blood sugar reguarly, put your hook inside snap shut and no smell. Will hold sinker, and hook and keeps the hook from being caught up on everything. Not going to sling Mr. Whiskers off the hook either. Have slapped the water a million and two times and it would not come off. Also old plastic film canisters work. I have to keep check on my BS but use the ones with the meter on top. Heavier. NO don't have dieabetes and don't want to that is why i keep a check on it. Close for me but with diligence and my wife will not have it.

I like fresh knots when starting the day so my hooks get removed
and put in a small zip-lock plastic bowl.

Well aint no need to save a treble hook with stink bait on it. I am not gonna spend 30 minutes cleaning a a 30 cent hook plus an animal may eat them ..i cut them off and throw them away ..i used to slap the water all that stuff it does work but it dont remove all the smell so that makes it un-safe. I guess if your too-tight to toss e'm you can remove them and put them in an old perscription bottle...I say chunk e'm aint worth all the trouble. To me my time is worth more than the $ it takes to re-tie with new hooks.

If it ain't broke don't fix it...but go ahead and work on it anyway.....

I just wanted to get an idea what some other folks did about that problem. Some of the solutions offered are great ideas but I think ultimately they're too much trouble for me. I probably continue to throw away the hooks after being used on punch bait.

I sla[p the water like the other guys but I drive pickup and rods are in back- time before last didn't all off and hooked hook to eyelet and it dried up on eyelet and I didn't notiice it as it was dark next trip out and line was cut by hardened dough bait as I cast so -I lost weights, swivel and hook- lol

Interesting ideas. I've often wished for a solution to this problem.

One more item.... I dont just tie on a bare hook, because the cats will often swallow the hooks, which makes it a challenge to get back out w/o accidentally cutting my line.

My solution is to put on a small split ring + barrel swivel. I tie my line to the swivel, then when I'm grabbbing the hook with pliers to pull it back out of a catfish, I dont accidentally cut the line.

Still havent mastered getting that [censored] off the line though.... I'll try the "invert the hook and scrape it off/needlenose" method next time.

For us tight wads and my wife who hates the stink just clip circle ,treble hooks, Dip Tubes and Furry Thang off old line and soak hooks in a solution of Simple Green and shake, shake it takes all that stinky [censored] off and smell!

Simple Green----- the cure for the stink , slime, dead fish smell and [censored] left over from a day of fishing. Works great in steam Cleaners for us with carpeted boats just a little suds stop in solution.

A Friend uses it in a Miracle Grow sprayer to dilute it for his bay boat clean up.

Just be careful wherever you put them, they will attract furry cats and it is a mess trying to de-hook a stray cat from your pole you left stored in the boat shed. At the end of the day, I take off my hooks and put them in a zip lock bag so that they will not hurt anything. Sometimes I reuse them, sometimes I don't.

Yup, I definately learned my lesson and quit leaving treble hooks on my poles when I wasn't ready to use them yet... blush

I remove Treble hooks after stink bait fishing even though I keep the rods in the boat. If they're gunked up too bad I'll dispose of them if not I'll put them in an old 35mm film canister that I use just for that purpose.
