I hear you Jole. I am constantly finding jigs and other baits wrappped around the railing on the upper deck of my dock. Thats 13-14 ft. above the water. I stay amazed.

I tend to pass up docks when folks are on the dock. Several owners of docks on CC like it when we come by and shoot their dock as I think they enjoy to watch fish be pulled out from beneath their docks. As far as hitting boats, etc I agree that shooting needs to be done by folks are confident in their shot. I wouldent let my son shoot at a deer until he could keep it in the circle...the same goes with shooting a jig within inches of folks hard earned toys.

I am most definately crossing the line it sounds like..Although I have never dinged a boat I have on more than one occassion accidentally flipped a worm up on a dock and got it stuck between the boards.. So I troll over and get up on the boatdock and get my worm unstuck..I realize this is trespassing but figured they really don't want to come down to their dock to find string all over their dock and my little hook hanging from their dock..

Being a dock & boat owner I understand your frustration. I too figure most people don't want a jig left on there dock and will sometimes hop out and get the jig for my customers. I have however passed up many docks that I figure they can't shoot without hitting a nice boat. Also if the owner is there and watching I rarely fish the dock, that's why weekdays are better. I'm not going to catch a bunch of fish off a dock while the owner watches.
Sorry to hear about your boat, hopefully this thread will make the person that dd it more aware.

Okay dock shooting what does that mean. When I fish a dock I usually just flip to a target which means the bait is softly hitting the water as not to stir up a big splash. I am guessing this not what you are mad at? There are times I will cast a worm up under the dock but I never do that near a boat as to sometimes hitting the dock that happens. I do everything not to damage anyones property and been lucky so far on that part. Sorry about the others and the BB gun is good ideal to get even. I might even want to help you out doing that. It would be fun.

Ran-D dock shooting is an art of crappie fishing, so flipping a worm, or jig big enough to cause a splash dsnt apply here buddy..
Jole..i get what u mean..and generally speaking most of us shooters are pretty careful around someones dock, mosty being the key phrase here...when fishing the slip on a dick if it has a boat in it..alot of times ill just flip in rather than shoot, or skip it in under...lets face it if the baot is on a lift do we need to shoot it..or can we probably just flip it into the same area of the slip...or skip it under the deck w out bouncing your jig off the boat...now i am guilty off puttin a little jighead paint on a dock header or 2 in my day..but thats usually gone by the time i leave as its just dry paint chips or flakes..never once caused 1 bit of damage to a dock or any boat attatched to it, so i just cant see how a guy could manage to hit a boat hard enough to chip gel w a 1/16 jig..a man that is capable of such damage should practice in the drive way a bit.

Like I said in another post guys we got to put the practice in. Use your garage door start at 2 feet and work your way down. I have all sorts of dings on my door, but it helps cause I've been pretty spot on this Spring getting that jig under those docks. Just my two cents. dang crappie fisherman, always messing up peoples stuff!! LOLL! yall gonna give us bass fisherman a bad name! btw-- is there a hybrid bass and crappie fisherman?? do they need thier own section on the tff?? what happens if you do both? is the world gonna come to an end? I dont ding docks with either fish i am targeting.. its disrespectful to others property! i may bounce a little off some wood, but never boats! and I try like heck to get my lure back if it hangs up! i would hate for some child to get stuck by a rusty ol hook that I broke off on your dock.

Like any good athlete you should practice your shots my wife and I sit out side with the baby with buckets and old coffee cans at different lengths so we can hit on target most of the time I have only shot the docks on a lake a few times but still keep in good practice same with flipping and pitching for the sun fishermen

I understand. I it a few boat and wave runner with crappie jigs and feel bad every time. Then little jigs dont hurt anything I bet the bassfisher man can take some chunks out.
