For all you nay sayers, Amistad is as good as it has ever been!!! It just took a couple years of stable water levels and some SHALLOW GRASS at the right time of the year. The bass have always been here they were people wern't fishing. We are catching more 3 to 6 lb bass than ever. This summers topwater bite will be OFF THE CHARTS.

Amistad is about 3 ft low, water temp is in the upper 60's early and low 70's later in the day. The shallow grass is growing at a fast rate as well as some of the deeper hydrilla out to 20 ft. We have had an incredible Spring with just amazing catches. I have been catching 50 to 100 bass a day for the past three months, even in the wind. We have had 5 fish average weighs from mid to upper 20 lbs every day. The most recent catches have been out of 10ft of water and less in the new growth of pepper grass and some kind of hair looking grass.
Yesterday we caught several 3 to 5 lb fish on Reaction Innovations Vixens. By the way I talked with Andre Moore and he expects to have Vixens back in production by 2011!!
Most of my recent trips we have caught everything on 3/16 oz tru tungsten Tx rigged trick worms and flukes in watermelon anything. I prefer the light weight in this clear water because, bass rely on their sence of feel and know to trust that their eyesight will find the source of the vibration in clear water. That is why a slow fall is very important either on the initial fall or when snapping the bait out of the grass it will give the fish enough time to see it. I'll fish this size weight out to 30 ft and in the wind, it just takes patients and confidence to do it. I look for the top water fishing to just get better as the blue gill spawn gets started later this month. Don't forget about the TRU TUNGSTEN TRU LIFE SWIMBAIT they will eat it.
Power tackle is making a whole line of incredible rods. Two of which I can't live without. One is the PG 104 for just about anything, it is probably the best all around rod ever and the other is their ULTIMATE SWIMBAIT rod which doubles as a great frog rod and also for carolina riggin those giants down at FALCON. It is 8ft of torque when you need it.
Thanks,
Ray Hanselman
