Nice fish gutcheck. I dont really worry about being able to beach them at the camp site. Ill just throw the yaks in my truck and go to the boat ramp and launch there. Should be down there by around 3-4pm saturday. Going to fish the afternoon and evening then get some rest and get back on the lake at day break.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Decided we are going to do Fairfield instead of Purtis because a buddy from Corpus Christi is probably going to join us. Any recent reports on Fairfield?

Went first time in March for a day trip... Had visions of 28 inch redfish, like I suppose everybody does. Launched at the ramp across from the discharge and paddled over at about 9 am with an array of dd 22 type baits. Had a couple tilapia-colored lipless cranks that I thought might work. From what I understand the lake was WAY up which had really screwed the patterns up. I'm not good enough to throw a cast net from the yak and the waterline was into the brush so I was unable to net any tilapia since the shoreline was too hard to navigate on foot. Tied off at the discharge and fished with those crankbaits and some smallish cut shad i had managed to net near the ramp for about 5 hours without a tap. Did see some large fish rolling out there, but I dont know if they were cats, reds or gar. Several boats around me, never saw a tight line on any of them. Decided to troll the cove, did that for another couple hours and after no bites but several lost 7 dollar cranks I decided to explore the main lake. I found that something was making a lot of racket in the reeds near one of the points so I paddled in for a look-see and tied on a dinger for the hell of it since I didn't want to lose any more trebled baits-- first cast a two pound bass. They were all over the place but I only ended up with three more 1 1/2 - 3 pounders in another couple hours of fishing. They were into like 1-2 feet of water in the reeds so getting to them was not easy. The bite turned off at about 430 and i was tired and sunburnt so called it a day. Have no idea what it's like right now and this was a while ago so it's probably no help to you, but the moral of the story is this: if the redfish pattern isn't working, there are other fish in that lake. I understand there are some monster bluegill there too. Good luck. Here's the biggest of the bass I got. Nothing special but it sure beat getting skunked.

I have been to fairfield one time and got skunked. Probably wont go back for a while Decided we are going to do Fairfield instead of Purtis because a buddy from Corpus Christi is probably going to join us. Any recent reports on Fairfield? why would a friend joining you change the lake? You have a better chance of catching fish on purtis creek.
