In theory, a dropping air pressure brings on feeding activity, rising pressure turns the fish off feeding, high pressure results in the fish moving to shallower water, and low pressure results in fish moving to deeper water.

I saw this discussed on a fishing show one time. The bottom line was that fishing is generally better with low barometric pressure than high pressure. The theory was that high pressure, which is literally a higher air pressure exerted on the water surface and water column, reduces the activity of the smallest critters in the food chain. When the activity of the smallest critters is reduced, the feeding activity of each subsequently larger critter in the food chain also slows down, including the ones that bass feed on.
In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

It also depends on the size of the lake or body of water you are fishing. With a large lake, the pressure is less of a concern because it is dispersed as compared to a smaller body of water.

Tin Head As you know Bass have air bladders. Standard average air pressure is 14.6 pound/per/square inch. So when the barometer is "High" or "Low" which means it is above or below 14.6psi. A fish airbladder is s-l-o-w to make the change or adjust to the changed pressure. Therefor the fish must move in or out of is airbladder comfort zone. Go either deeper or more shallow. As a result when most of the fish are in shallow water they are more concentrated and easier to find and catch

You need to read the books Scientific Angler, it is an older publication. But, it gets into the Science of things, I know there has been new research, but this guy did the leg work before people were spending that much time doing it.
He explains this in this fashion. Bass have a fairly large Air Bladder for fish. The Air Bladder will shrink as Low Pressure comes in and then expand as High Pressure sets in. Most of us have seen a Bass that was caught in deep water and what happens to it with the Air Bladder. When this happens a fish can not keep it's equilibrium as well, making it difficult to try to feed. More energy to chase than it is worth. In lab studies the fish put in a swimming pool type environment would slide down the contour of the pool. This is one of the reasons they will be on some type of structure, to keep there balance. Hence some of the best fishing is in tight to cover flipping a jig or soft plastic, and/or one of the new techniques is to run a moving bait by structure, out of reflex(instinct they will slap at it. Many will miss or get hook in the side, if you remember a lot of the fish KVD caught at the Classic were hung this way. Grass gives them something to set in and stay sturdy also where present. If you fish a lake with lots of Boat Docks, many times they will position themselves on the pillars.
There are other variables that will change some of this, weak fronts, which occur later in the year and usually back up and change the conditions again. Bedding fish will already be there. Subtle approaches with Wacky Rigs may work.
Hope this may have been some help. But, this book Scientific Angler is well worth the read. One of the most informative books I have read.

Tin Head: Click on this and put in your nearest airport or zip code. look at the "Altimeter" know as Barremeterict pressure. That is NOW stuff; no tomorrow. Check for Rising or Falling < http://www.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KTKI.html >
