Does anyone have severe allergies during or right after they finish up a morning or evening fishing?

I have never had allergies in my life until last year late summer/early fall. Now it is guaranteed I can be fine all week but after being on a boat for an hour, I sneeze, water eyes, scratchy throat and then I am a mess for two days after.

It usually happens as I am headed back to the marina and won't stop for a couple of days. It never starts right when I get on the boat.

Friday I went with a friend for 1 hour - the rest of the night was miserable. I went Sunday morning and Sunday evening. I was fine all day Sunday but as i headed to the marina Sunday evening - look out!

Anyone expierence this? I am allergic to nothing and have never expierenced this before but you could set your calendar by it. If I am on a boat, that night all you will hear is me sneezing.

Just curious.

That's living in the DFW. One of the top 5 worst places to live if you have allergies.

I would have to say that I'm the opposite of you. I find that I do much better when I'm out on the water away from the grasses, molds, etc.

That is what I think is so strange Holzer. I can cut grass all day, spend all day outside and I am fine. It is just when I get on a boat. Craziest thing I have ever expierenced. I would think being on the lake is about the freshest air one could get in the city. Go figure!

I have had pretty bad allergies in the past, in high school I worked for a landscaping business, but I could usually control it pretty well with medicines like Zyrtec or Claritin... but this year has been heck for me!! I have been taking zyrtec, eye drops, chloraseptic, menthol patches, nasal spray, saline spray, etc..... nothing has worked!! Down here in College Station I heard that we are having the worst pollen levels on record! So in 1 hour I will be seeing an allergist for the first time... I sure hope he can give me something good cause I am SOOOO tired of felling miserable.

Knock on wood, I've never been one to have allergies. I only have to deal with the sun burned flip flop feet when coming off the water. I'm getting better at actually using the sun screen on my feet.

You and me both Whiskey. Man, I hope they help you. This is absolutly killing me. The symptoms come on and I sneeze like crazy. Watery eyes, scratchy throat, ugh! The bad part is the two days after the blow up. I am so drained!

Just got back from the allergist and he prescribed me Nasonex... so we will see how that goes... he also gave me a NetiPot... if you dont know what that is look it up... It is SO weird but I have heard nothing but amazing things about it... may help you out too.

VIP Fishing- Sounds to me like your allergic to getting OFF the water. Just stay out there and fish forever.

Whiskey Wrangler- When I was in school in CS I was told by a Bio prof that CS was a terrible place for allergies because of some of the grasses they experiment with there. He said some can be drug resistant which is why the zyrtecs and claritans wont work. I have allergies almost everywhere but they were at their worst when I was in school there. On the netipot thing, im about to start using it too. I know people who were on weekly shots that started neti-potting and were able to quite their shots.

sorry didnt mean to hi-jack

whiskeR! I hate whiskey!! hahaha

Ya like I said I got the Neti pot but havent tried it yet... honestly I am kinda nervous too... this is my second day on Nasonex and so far it has been good! It is twice daily which is a pretty big dose.... the doctor said if this doesnt work I will have to be allergy tested (which does not sound fun at all from the way he described it to me) and will most likely have to go on shots once a week for at least 5 years..... No thanks!!

I've never had allergies before. But the last few times out I noticed major pressure in my whole face like it was swollen and I couldn't really breath that well. Then it would be gone by the next day.

Interesting info all. I'll look into the Neti Pot. Someone also recommended Nasnex spray.

Probably allergic to algae. It gets especially bad when it is
blooming. Try taking your meds before going to the lake.

This makes sense- I'm from South Louisiana. I had allergies there, but since i've been here (in FW) it's been way worse. Now I don't just get a runny nose, I get fever, body aches, etc.....
