A buddy and I booked a guide for 3) half day morning trips the first weekend in May. We're going with Top Gunn guide service, has anyone ever gone with them? Please be honest, what did you think about their service? What about a decent place to stay? We can stay in their cabins, but is there a better choice? Also, what do you suggest we do after the morning guide trip? We are not planning to take a boat, so we need to either fish from the bank, or a dock, or we could do something completely different. I might throw in my fly rod and see if I can land a trout or two. Are there any good restaurants around Mount Ida?

Have funt that is one lake that I can't wait to fish. My brother and I are planning a trip next year for a week. We will fish with a guide the first two days than fish on our own the rest of the week. Look forward to a report.

I'll let you know how we do. The guide said they caught a 34 pounder the day before we booked and a 47 the day before that! Hopefully we can catch at least 1 each.

When I called one of the guides he said that April and May they are fishing for trophies 30lb+. Couldn't imagine catching one that big.

First of all save your money cause your going to need a taxidermy guy.
Top is a good choice. You could stay at Shagri La in. cool comfy place.
You will need to rest in the after noons.........You arms will be tired!

We caught 3 stripers the first day, a 10# 12# and 13# and 2 black bass. The second day we caught 4 black bass, and the last day we got skunked. We did have 2 baits hit the last day, but failed to hook either fish. A cold front blew in the 2ND day and I think this shut the bite off. We have already booked a trip for earlier in the year for 2011. Our guide has landed 6 stripers that all went 45 pounds out of his boat. I have no complaints about the guide or the accomodations, the fish just didn't cooperate for us.
