I'm taking a couple of kids fishing on Thursday 6/30 & Friday 7/1. Planning to hybrid fish with live shad. Know how to throw a 14' -- 1/2" net but have never caught shad on this lake. We will be putting in at the Dam.

I'd appreciate any suggestions for places to throw for shad. Also, what size live shad are you using on Bridgeport for hybrids?

Thank you in advance

The only suggestion that I can give you is go and catch your bait at another lake and bring it with you. I have never been able to catch enough shad for a day of fishing on that lake.

3stringer,

As JED said, get your bait at EM before you go.
4"- 5" baits. Perch works also on some days. I
usually get em the night before.

That's not very encouraging.... Are 6" shad too big? That's the typical striper size that I use?

This size is very easy to find on EM

6" will work. Used 8" before. Give the fish a
little time to take the bigger baits. 5" seems
to be perfect. If they are too big, cut em in
half. Fresh and bloody.

Big shad will work great this time of year.Mr Hybrid will slurp a big gizzard down with no proplem this time of year. I catch my bait at Grapevine the night before. Just remember to add salt and a couple of blocks of ice to your tank.

3stringer,

If you have to catch them at Bridgeport shoot me an email and I'll give you a couple of places to go get them, normally I'm tighter with shad locations than fish but you softened me up by taking kids and I want ya'll to have a good trip. They won't be super easy like other lakes right now but easy enough.

Maybe Dennis or Keith will chime in--they know the lake better than almost anyone on TFF.

Yeah Dennis, the last few times out for me and Britton haven't been good at all. No hybrids or even sand bass.

Fishbait Charters - you have an email.

Randy Wood -- I add ice, but why salt?? Is Lake Bridgeport salty like Possum Kingdom Lake? Or is there another reason?

Salt makes the Shad keep there scales on. I beleive it makes the water "soft" I cant tell you why it helps the shad keep there scales. It does and makes a big differance in how long they last and what they look like after being in the tank.
