What is a good rod and reel combo for universal fishing. I know there is a reel for cranks a reel for plastics, etc. etc. But, I've been using a spinning reel for EVERYTHING, was wondering if I should stick with a spinning reel or is there a better more efficient rod and reel combo, price doesn't bug me.. But please keep it reasonable, no 1,000$ rods
Catch and Release fishing is a lot like golf. You don't have to eat the ball to have a good time.

if price doesn't bug you then you should just get a couple of different setups for differnt applications. Also depends on what kind of fishing you like to do and what you fish for.

By price doesn't bug me I mean; I'll save up money for a good set up.
I fish for everything practically; bass, sunfish, carp, gar, catfish, and crappie. Strictly fresh water fish too.
Thanks in advance.

You can not fish the same setup for perch and gar....just sayin....
If you want one good combo though. I'd go with a Gloomis IMX or GL3 blank, and a Shimano Stella 3000FD. That's a pretty good combo for everything from crappie to bass.

i have came to like the cherywood rod made by berkly! quantom 10 or 20 is good as well! got the cherrywood on sale and have been very pleased so far! used it for sandies, hybrids, cats, crappie, and caught a few bass as well! i dunno how to use bait cast so i stick wit spinnin reals!! academy is the best place to look for all purpose rods!
i have heard that shimono makes a great real as well!

Universal tackle, I think it is 2000-3000size of the spinning reel with Medium taper rod. But, there is more efficient tackle. When I go to Bass fishing, I bring two types of tackle. 6.6ft light spinning rod with 2000 size spinning reel with 4-5lb line and 7ft heavy bait casting combo with 15lb line. You can use spinning combo for smaller fishes and smaller lures, and you can use baitcaster for bigger fishes and bigger lures. Bait caster will able you to cast lures more accurately(it takes for a while to get used it).

$20 at walmart. great all around combo. I agree, rod is good. Reel is not that great, I own one of those myself.
