And...is the striper fishing decent around that area? We are looking for an area that will have small boat and little boat traffic versus the Catfish Bay area with tons of people and big wave throwing boats. Just looking to get away from the crowds a little bit, and don't want to burn alot of boat gas chasing stripers. We will be staying at Johnson Creek...any good striper areas close? I thought I saw a post several weeks ago that said stripers were schooling near the Roosevelt bridge...and was just checking to see if the Hwy. 70 bridge is one and the same.

Thanks in advance for all replies.

Highway 70 and Roosevelt bridge are the same. Keep in mind that Catfish Bay is located on the west end, south side of the bridge.

You may want to trailer over to the Caney Creek area. Very good fishing , usually light pressure. Small boat friendly unless wind really whipping out of the south.

Good luck

I rode my motorcycle to Highport yesterday afternoon at exactly 8:00 p.m. and there were stripers blowing up everywhere at the mouth.
Acres and acres of them too. And not one boat fishing them. But that's quite a ways for you. I'm sure you can find some in your area though.
