Snagged this lovely creature while bass fishing at a local pond.
What in the world is it?
It swims very slow, and bobs up and down like a bobber in a wind storm. Any ideas?
After i threw it back in the water it tried to crawl back out and attack. Prehistoric! i think so
Wasnt sure if i should have beat it over the head with a rock or what. Turned him lose and caught him again 15 minutes later. This time i tied him up and left him. Maybe the beaver will eat him.

****I was informed this morning by someone that was out there, that the fish was taken after i tied it up. Whoever took it home reported that it died shortly after being removed from the water.
Guess thats a great thing.

Looks like a South American Silver Arowana. Probably from someone's fish tank. They can jump like 5 feet out of the water.

+1 No doubt about it. probably got too big for some ones fish tank so they dumped it there. shoulda kept it and sold it to someone that likes exotic fish. they'll pay a good amount of money for it. The one my friend had, he bought for $150 and it was about 1/3 that size

Defiantly some kind of arowana. An invasive species.

Dude, That is freaky. It makes you wonder what people have released into our public waters. Things that we and our kids swim with all the time and have no idea about.

There is no telling what else is swimming around in these waters. people just dont care sometimes. I just hope that this is the only one in there and not a whole slew of them that could potentially wipe out the bass population or anything else.
I was informed by someone that was out there, that the fish was taken after i tied it up. Whoever took it home reported that it died shortly after being removed from the water.
Guess thats a great thing.

That's crazy! I've heard of Pacu's coming out of Bachman.

The day after catching a lot of fish is still a good day.

Good thing it died. If i would have known this at the time. i would have just clubbed it over the head and threw it in the woods.

I consider myself to be uneducated when it comes to fish other than bass. smile
