I'm bummed! I was hoping that McAllen would be the site of the new Bass Pro Shops, but according to this link, Harlingen is getting the newest Bass Pro!

http://www.ammoland.com/2010/04/30/bass-pro-shops-harlingen-texas/

Doesn't make sense. The McAllen mall (La Plaza Mall) has the highest sales per square foot than any other mall in the U.S. We have a border crossing, which Harlingen does not have, and McAllen's an hour closer to the best bass lake in the United States, Falcon Lake! They would have been positioning themselves more in Bass fishing country instead of saltwater country in Harlingen. They're also building the new interstate (I-69), which is going to McAllen, not Harlingen, due to the border crossing. McAllen would have been so much more centrally located for the sportsmen down here, I just can't understand why they picked Harlingen over McAllen. I even have a friend that drives all the way from Harlingen to be in the McAllen Bass Anglers club, because Harlingen doesn't even have one! McAllen is where business is hopping, being one of the top ten growth areas in the United States! Harlingen is a ghost town compared to McAllen! I'm bummed because I'm going to have to drive an hour to go to Bass Pro in Harlingen, if I ever need to go there, instead of a ten minute drive if it were here in McAllen. Maybe we'll get a Cabela's here in McAllen, instead, which I'd actually prefer!!! Dumb move Johnny Morris!!!

Check the number of RV parks in Harlingen, i.e. snow birds, vs in McAllen. Don't think for one minute that Johnny Morris and his management staff didn't do a very thorough business analysis before making a decision for store placement. It's one heckuva investment to open an Outdoor World retail center, far more so than a Walmart.

At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

I guess they will cater to the salt water fishermen, like Academy and Walmart does.

The one in garland (rockwall) does pretty good. There's alway at least 50 people in there shopping when I go there. Not a bad day off for management i guess. I think its in a better location then grapevine.

wasnt there talk a year or so ago of them possibly closing the rockwall store? Grapevine's parking lot is ALWAYS packed and its centrally located between some of DFW's best fisheries.

Port Isabel, Arroyo City, Port Mansfield, Horseshoe Lake in San Benito, and Indian Lake in Los Fresnos...All closer to Harlingen than McAllen. I think it will do good in Harlingen.

Harlingen made them a better deal than MacAllen. City will virtually pay Bass Pro to build in theie town.
