Headed to austin to visit the girlfriend and considering bringing the boat. I want to get into the sandies, but don't know where to try....Lake Travis? Lake Georgetown?

Basically, if you were bringing a boat to Austina and trying to catch a boatload of sandies, what would you do.....and what would you fish with?? I can give info on Dallas lakes and Fork....

thanks

The Wolf

I don't fish for sandies much on Travis, but, if you're interested in some black bass action, head to Hurst creek-the blacks have been schooling there. Good luck and have fun!

FlameTheWolf,

You can catch sandies at Lake Georgetown right now trolling the Hellbender/Pet spoon rig by Russell Park beach early in the morning or late. Only beach on the lake, you can't miss it.

You can do the same at Decker (Walter E. Long) on the intake side.

Another lake you might want to try is Granger. I haven't been there in awhile, but we used to catch alot of sandies on the Pet spoon and also minnows at night under the green light.

Also Canyon lake is just down the road in New Braunfels and it has sandies, but I don't have any specifics on what to use there right now. Maybe someone else could help with that one.

I fished lake Georgetown, last Friday morning. The whites and blacks were feeding on shad, on topwater. Georgetown is about 20 miles North of Austin, off IH35N. The fishing was great for the first few hours. However, the neat thing about fishing Travis, is that you can fish and then go for a 60 mile cruise, one-way. That is how for it is from Lake Austin Dam to the Marble Falls dam. Or the length of Travis in one direction..So, you cannot get bored! There is a lot of things to see and do on Travis, if you are not from around Austin. This weekend, the big "Republic of Texas" Harley Davidson motorcycle rally is in Austin. 40,000 bikes plus others will be in Austin. So, be carefull....Good Luck!
