I just bought a 1997 Triton TR-17 from my dad. He bought it new in '97, and it still has the original Goodyear Marathon 215-75R14 tires on it. They're 13 years old at this point, and I think it's time to put some new ones on. No reason to push my luck with a set that old. They only have approx 2,000 miles on them, since we've always lived pretty close to the lake, and they've always been in the garage. They look great with no cracking and plenty of tread, so I guess I'm still kinda debating on whether I should swap them out...

Anyway, assuming I do spend the money, the current Goodyear Marathons I have on there have lasted this long, so I don't see any good reason to try something else. If I get another 13 years, it will be well worth the extra money. But the only places I can find them are www.tire-easy.com and www.tirerack.com. None of the local places have them. Discount Tire has exactly one tire in that size, some Carlisle's that are the same price as the Goodyears, so I'm not doing that. Any suggestions on whether to get new tires and where to get the Marathons cheaper than the $100/tire price on www.tirerack.com?

Also, I couldn't find anywhere that it says what pressure to run them at. I know the max for those tires is 50. They're at 35 right now, which seems really low.

Have Discount Tire order them for you. I have that same size. One time I was able to get Discount to sell them to me installed for $81 a piece. Do you like to bargain? It will work at Discount Tire if you shop around first.

You might try walmart. My dad had 2 put on my trailer last year and they came from walmart. He was traveling at the time and unfamiliar with the area so he tried walmart and they had them.

Most people who have had problems with marathons had 35#s in them. Always keep 50#s in them atleast. Goodyear actually recommends running them at 60#s if you drive over 65mph with them.

Not at all. Go to wwww.discounttire.com and pull up the set of tires you want. You will see a box that asks if you found them cheaper. Say yes and type in the www.tirerack.com link/address and Discount Tire will call you and beat that price. Just happened for me this week. Tires were 80.00ea on www.tirerack.com and Discount matched it.

Talked to multiple discount tire stores. All said the same thing. They could match www.tirerack.com's price, but I had to include the shipping charge, which brings those tires to $107.50 apiece. None of the local stores had it in stock, so they'd all have to order it. After installation and tax, it would be $270, since they charge $15/tire to balance them.

Found a local goodyear center, and they're $250 out-the-door.

I took a good look at mine today, and I don't see any cracking or bulges or anything, and they still have 90% of the tread left. For that price, I'm just going to stick with what I have until it starts showing some more signs of wear. As long as I keep my spare in good shape, I should be fine. I do appreciate all the help guys, but I'm not burning $250 to replace tires that look brand new (even if they are 13 years old) right now.
