i dont care what style as long as it can cast a country mile. Any suggestions? Id like one for under 20 dollars so obviously not great it just needs to be able to cast far and handle a good sized cat

You get what you pay for when it comes to equipment. Look around Pawn shops or garage sales and you might find a Gem for 20 bucks but probably not. If you want something you can cast far you're probably going to want to get a big spinning reel.

I agree. If you want cheap, can't beat "good" zebcos. But, I would go bigger then a 33, and use 808's. They will cast far, and parts are readily available. Now before everyone starts dogging me, I have caught 5' sharks on zebcos. Remember, 30 or more years ago, they did not have the big Abu's, etc, there were zebcos. Here is some on ebay: http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trk...-All-Categories

It's a little more then what your wanting to spend but I would look at the Bass Pro CatMaxx cm 70 or cm 80. They are $39.99 I believe and well worth the money.

Gander mountain has some Quantum Olympus 80 spinning reels they show to hold 190 yds of 50lb test. They are original priced at 60 something but I just paid 14.99 for one. (These are probably only clearenced in the stores.)

Zebcos are the best value, in my humble opinion. I remember my dad catching a 12 pound cat on a snoopy version of the 202(back in 1988 or so). Of course, he was good at the art of bringing them in gently.
Some people just like catching. I like fishing.

on my 3 yr old cheapo Shakespeare tiger combo push button's I just replaced original reels with Zebco 733's( 33's are 10 lb line and 733's are bigger come prestrung with 20 lb. cajun red line) -ran $23 apiece- they cast pretty well - they got bait clicker/strike clicker

The Wal-Mart Tiger Combo is on sale here in Granbury 17.00. I have 5 of them and have for yrs. Never had a fish on the end of the line the pole or reel would not handle and have caught some mighty fair sized fish. 15lbs was biggest. But wife caught a 40lb. Black Drum at Port A on one of them. And man if they break if you keep them clean and taken care of they will replace them. Only one has ever broken on me, and it was replaces even without a reciept. But they see me in the fishing section at least every other day or so.
