Okay. Fished since before I could walk, but just now really getting into it from a more educated approach. Ive mostly used spinning reel setups and just bought my first baitcaster (Citica with 7ft MH rod). Im looking to use it to throw crank baits mainly, but will probably throw the occasional senko/worm/plastic when I take it as my only rod for a quick fishing afternoon. So, what line should I put on it? Mainly fish Canyon/Dunlap/Placid. No monsters, but there is the off chance of getting a striper or hybrid. Im sure there will be 27 opinions, so if you can explain the advantage of your choice, I would really appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

14# suffix seige... great castability, light enough to give your senko some great action but still tough enough not to be a "light line".

by the way 7' mh rod with a citica is a great choice for your first baitcaster/rod combo.. well done!

For your set-up and where your fishing I'd go with some 10 or 12 P-Line Premium. Very castable and a good mix of durability and softness.

12# Big Game.

I would not suggest fluorocarbon if this is your first baitcaster.

if your throwing medium/shallow cranks from the bank i would say 15# seaguar InvisX.its a small diamater so it wont affect the action of those shallower plugs TOO bad.its also light and limp enough to throw senkos and plastics.just remember if you buy flourocarbon to make sure your knot is wet when you cinch it down and dont cinch down too quickly.

Recommendation from a '70 Texas Aggie: Consider 12 - 15 lb.
P-line CX Premium. Handles like mono, low visibility under water due to fluorcarbon coating, good visibility above water due to clear/blue flourescence. Has a little stretch which is good for crankbaits. Handles even better with KVD line/lure conditioner treatment.

In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

Go with big game. If you back lash and have to cut it out, then you can respool for about $2 and not $17! You can catch anything out there on 15 lb big game!
