I'm 34 and have dipped snuff for 19 years. I also use to smoke 2 packs a day but was able to put em down and leave em alone without much trouble. But dipping is a real challenge to let go, for me anyways. I think it is way more addictive than cigs.
So my question to you smokeless tobacco users is: Do you have any secrets or hints on being able to quit?

Just quit. Make sure you understand "triggers". It isn't easy. After almost 3 months I still get hit with the "triggers" and I'm often tempted, but my desire to be a quiter prevails.
Stay with and exercise some discipline.
Good luck.

Lots of people have quit both with the use of gum, sunflower seeds, flavored toothpicks, peanuts. Anything that will keep the mouth and hands busy. :-D Hang in there and post here often when needed. One thing someone told me. Is when you have a crave and you want to dip/smoke post here and wait for three responses. If you still crave after that wait for three more.
Let's go Fishin!

"Dismiss and Distract"
Dismiss the craving (trigger) by immediately doing something else - take a 5-minute walk, go to the potty & meditate for a few minutes, say the "Serenity Prayer" - you have the courage to change the things you are capable of changing, I know it.
Distract your addictive brain with a sugar-free cough drop or Tic-Tac or something.... if you don't the craving will overcome your rational mind.
Then go on about your day without tobacco - once you stack up a couple of days you'll feel so good about your quit you won't want to buy a can ever again.
NEVER FORGET 9/11/2001
