Cool... I sure wish I could afford the old bait shop by the south shore entrance... I would build a big house behind it and never leave the lake!

There is a new BBQ place on the square next to the old theater. Don't remember the name but easy to find. It was pretty darn good! Huge portions and good food.

I only live 1hour and 10 mins from driveway to boat launch so I rarely stay over but often go saturday AND sunday... Maybe I will have to book a room soon to check out all the new restaurants! LOL

I can tell ya that Staghorn inn has in my opinion the best onion rings. Our family makes a joke that the hamburgers are a side for the onion rings..LOL

Was just there for 3 days two weeks ago during all the rain. The BBQ place downtown next to the theatre is Sowell's - pretty basic bbq but decent enough. No beer but I think you can bring your own.
Also ate at the Staghorn, the burger was really good. Didn't try any steaks.
Happy at Choke Canyon Lodge told me two weeks ago the same as Lance Krueger above has said. I think one of the CCL owners is her son and they have bought Nolan Ryans and will be reopening soon.
There's a pizza place next to the DQ that seems good enough. Lot of people there on a Friday night but I didn't eat there.
Calliham Store just outside of the park on the Calliham peninsula has tackle.

I lived down the road in C.C. for many yrs and the Refinery was one of my customers for long time also. I've bought lunch for customers at about every place in town.
Stagghorn has pretty decent food, good buffet. Back in the day people drove from all over the bush country to eat a chicken fried steak from Stagghorn, about all there was in those days and still not much more.
Mexican place on 281 is good. Van's BBQ is out of the way a little, its on 37 is real good, provided its still open, havent been there in a long time.
BBQ sandwich at Shell is hard to beat, Breakfast Tocos good too.
Havent tried the new Pizza place.
Hated to see Nolans close, hope it opens back up.
I havent been to Choke in a while, I need to make a run one of these days.
Thanks, Billy

Leaving Three Rivers on US 281 (North towards San Antonio), its on the left just before you get to I-37. Nothing else out there.

Supposedly the owners of the Choke Canyon Lodge bought the Nolan Ryan Steak House, and it's supposed to be open in a couple weeks. Third hand info, but what I heard from friends that were at the Choke Canyon Lodge a couple weeks ago. that place was pretty good!

They are also building a Loves travel center at 281 and 37, just up the road from Van's new place. Not sure if it will have a restaurant attached or not but I was excited to see it as much as I travel 37 to go hunting and fishing. There aren many decent stops along that stretch.
