Keep your rod up and when you feel hes coming to surface sweep your rod down to the water

when you see your line surfacing, you can do two things, put your rod tip in the water, and reel so he wont do a lot of jumping, youll keep him low usually. another thing is to just keep the line tight, thats it. unless youre doing another type of fishing, when i see them jump i aim at their tail and release the arrow. usually gets em right in the back or head

Must be an evening bite. Had a nice bass on on Monday evening. Half jumped with mostly a big head shake at the boat and the shaky head bounced off my shirt. Had to sit down, look around for a bit so I didn't curse too much. Breathe, man, let it ride.
Next bite, I set the hook so hard the little dink flew out of the water. Felt complied to apologize to it.

I try to find that deeper voice most guys on TV get and talk it in as I reel faster with my rod tip down.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know when to go fishing.

I'd like to give you guys a tip from the saltwater. Down there while tarpon fishing, if the fish jumps, we 'bow to the king'. Meaning lower your rod. But DEFINITELY do everything you can to keep your line tight.

Fish up, rod down. Fish down, rod up.

Lots of disinformation on this one. Do not lower your rod tip,do not stick your rod tip underwater,do not "bow to the fish". Just yank and crank when they jump. FZ1 don't jump no fish off.

Just about everyfishing show ive seen says bow to the fish when it jumps. Roland martin said that... And hes a boss. I heard you do this so that the fish doesnt land on a tight line and yank the hook out. Just what ive heard.

For me it depends on what I am fishing. Worm fishing with a gamagatsu hook I hold rod tip up because I have more confidence in that hook holding on the fish. Swim or rattle trap/treble, I try to keep the rod down.
